Rock legends, band meltdowns, all part of SXSW music fest

The best reason for a person to trek all the way to Austin for the South By Southwest music festival, other than the chance to see and hear a legend like Neil Young, could be found in one moment of insanity at a scarcely-attended show by a band with a semi-insulting name.



When the singer of Die Princess Die snapped four songs into the band's set, it was like watching a violent crime in progress. Maybe you know it's wrong, and you know somebody should do something, but you nonetheless stand there transfixed. In this case, the guitarist in question -- of a great band who has absolutely no desire to play anything remotely close to pop music -- let the loud, scratchy, unhinged rock possess him.



He started by taking off his guitar and throwing it at the wall. His band, probably used to such behavior, kept playing. He then picked it up and threw it the other direction across the stage. The band kept playing. Then, after a moment's contemplation, ran and threw himself into the rhythm section, scattering drums across the stage and flattening both the drummer and bassist, both of whom took a few minutes to get up.

"Lions Eat Lions Deluxe" (Uproar For Veneration Records) two years ago, the Said tornado Princess Says was passed in almost anonymously France. Almost. For the rare persons that attended his passage were able to forget scenic such a chaos… … and especially this sonorous so unique crash and extravagant at once. The combo of Los Angeles does not pay any expression, the four musicians that the compose are rather charming and quiet but when they take their instruments, they become as crazy, totally uncontrollable and of a savagery without name. It in results an abrasive, primitive noise, of an impetuous frenzy. During this mutation, one thinks about Unsane, Jesus Lizard, Some Girls, sometimes The Locust and even The March Circled. Gone out initially on GSL in 2006, Lions Eat Lions offers themselves (at last) an European exit thanks to the young label from Lille UFV. Marked "Deluxe" (the first album is included in bonus), the disc allows rediscovering all eccentricity and the extravagance of the combo yank. This is well heard to listen to full volume. So worse for the neighbors! So worse for your health. - José Got married
