Damion Hugh Nelson aka Traxx, born to parents Pastor W.L. Nelson and Evangelist D.M Nelson, the 4th of seven children. Blessed, Gifted, Multi-talented, Mastermind, are some of the words one uses to describe this musical prodigy who started playing drums at age three. Music runs through every fiber, every blood vessel, every vein and every artery of his body. Traxx lives and breathes music . "Music is my only escape"
Being the cousin of reggae mega-star and icon "Bunny Wailer" (who wrote and performed with another of Jamaica's mega-stars "Bob Marley") only drives this passionate and diligent music producer, singer, song writer, musician to strive for excellence.
Traxx, as he's referred to by industry players, grew up listening and studying the likes of Andre Crouch, Sam Cooke, Clarence Carter, Al Green, Charlie Pride, The Cameroonians, The Winans,Micheal Jackson, The Beetles, Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Bunny Wailer and many more great musicians and performers. "Going through daddy's record collection was and still is always a trip, I heard things I've never heard anywhere else plus it helped to open my imagination and to try new things musically and sonically".
Traxx honed his musical talent in "the church" playing drums, keyboard and organ, also becoming an astounding choir and musical director. "Back in the day I couldn't go to parties and so on, you know! Being the son of a pastor is NOT easy, there are just too many rules, but it keeps me grounded and helps to build my character".
It was at St. Jago High School where he first showcased his vocal talent for "Ashe" (one of Jamaica's best performing arts group) at the tender age of ten. He was chosen to go on to the finals but later declined because he was told by his friends that he had to do "secular music" and his parents wasn't having it! Added to the fact that he was already an integral part of St. Jago's under 14 football squad, chess club and cadet . "It demanded a lot of my time plus I was on the church choir and i had my school work to think about and I played basketball and football for my community plus i had other things at home taking up a lot of my time. Music was just fun anyway, I only showcased because one of my friends (Carlton) did". "Bagga Brown" encouraged Traxx to continue…but music was put on the back burner, until……
In 2002, for the first time, after quitting the Black Lion's Football Club where he had been playing the center back position, entered the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) National Gospel Song Competition. After making it to the finals with a song written by himself and Delroy Rogers entitled "Lead Me", the musical fire that had been burning inside him for many years AWOKE. "This is my calling, I'm gonna go all out."
Now Traxx is producing tracks for Devonte from the group Tanto Metro and Devonte, Cezar, Alozade, Junior Bailey from Fab Five, Lymie Murray and many more artists.
