FANTASY RECORDS GETS DENGUE FEVER!
Fantasy Records/Concord Music Group Set to Release Fourth Album from
Renowned Cambodian-American Rock Band Worldwide in Spring 2011
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LOS ANGELES, CA (THURSDAY AUGUST 5, 2010) – Cambodian-American rock band Dengue Fever (www.myspace.com/denguefevermusic) and Fantasy Records, a division of Concord Music Group, announced today that they have reached an agreement to release the band's next record worldwide.

Dengue Fever is currently recording their fourth full-length, as-yet-untitled album at the renowned Village studios in West L.A. and their own Shoebox Studios in Los Feliz with a target release date of Spring 2011. The forthcoming record features all new material and tracks in both Khmer and English as does their most recent offering, 2008's highly acclaimed, Venus on Earth.

Dengue Fever's ascent from local eastside Los Angeles indie band to international pop attraction has been a steady climb. Known for their high- energy live shows at clubs, theaters and festivals, the band has garnered attention from some unconventional corners. Metallica's Kirk Hammett chose their song "One Thousand Tears of a Tarantula" as his second favorite song of the decade in Rolling Stone; in 2010, Dengue Fever was the answer of a question on Jeopardy!; and, True Blood, HBO's smash television series not only featured band's music but also named an entire episode after their composition, "Escape from Dragon House."
The band has garnered critical praise from all over the world. Amazon.com named Dengue Fever's second album "Escape From Dragon House" the 1 International Release of the year, Spin magazine featured the band in their 'Breaking Out' section, and high profile features have appeared in the New York Times, Magnet, Wired, and N.P.R.'s "Fresh Air", just to name a few.
Worldwide media includes features in Time Magazine International, UK's Mojo magazine, Voice of America, Norway's NRK television and Cambodia's CTN. Topping it all off, the band appeared on the BBC's popular British television series Later With Jools Holland. Ray Davies of the Kinks, also appearing on the program, said "They sound like a cross between Blondie and Led Zeppelin and I should know, I've toured with both."
In May, Dengue Fever returned from a whirlwind world tour of Norway, Sweden, Germany, Turkey, Vietnam, Hong Kong and Cambodia. While in Cambodia, the band was invited to headline a special event sponsored by the Embassy of the United States of America in honor of the 60th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between the United States and Cambodia. They also headlined a benefit in conjunction with Cambodian Living Arts (http://www.cambodianlivingarts.org/), an organization that aims to preserve traditional Cambodian music and dance.
Brothers Ethan (keyboards) and Zac (guitar) Holtzman started Dengue Fever in 2001 when they discovered they shared a love for the Cambodian pop music of the 60s. After adding sax man David Ralicke (Beck/Brazzaville), drummer Paul Smith and bassist Senon Williams, they went looking for a Cambodian singer. Enter Chhom Nimol, who performed regularly for the King and Queen of Cambodia. Her powerful singing - marked by a luminous vibrato that adds exotic ornamentations to her vocal lines - and hypnotic stage moves based on traditional dances complimented the band's driving Cambodian/American sound.
ABOUT DENGUE FEVER
Dengue Fever (http://www.myspace.com/denguefevermusic) is Chhom Nimol – who sang regularly for the King and Queen of Cambodia - Ethan Holtzman (keyboards), Zac Holtzman (guitar), David Ralicke (horns), Senon Williams (bass) and Paul Smith (drums). The band's music has been featured in a number of film and television shows including CITY OF GHOSTS, MUST LOVE DOGS, BROKEN FLOWERS, HBO's hit series TRUE BLOOD and twice on Showtime's, WEEDS. They have released three albums, Dengue Fever, Escape From Dragon House, Venus On Earth and released their DVD/CD soundtrack to the documentary Sleepwalking Through The Mekong on April 14, 2009.
The band's eponymous debut was mostly covers of Cambodian classics. Their second album, "Escape From Dragon House", written almost entirely by the band, was more psychedelic, freer, looser and more experimental than the debut. Their next release, 2008's "Venus on Earth", consisted entirely of original material, with several songs performed in English, furthering the band's overall goal to fuse American and Cambodian styles. In 2009, the band earned kudos for the DVD/CD soundtrack release of the documentary film "Sleepwalking Through The Mekong", which chronicled their 2005 trip to Nimol's homeland during the water festival. They also wrote and performed in front of live audiences a commissioned soundtrack for the 1925 silent film classic "The Lost World".
Earlier this year, the band curated a collection of classic Cambodian rock songs from the pre-Khmer Rouge era called "Dengue Fever Presents: Electric Cambodia".
