Def Trigger is a creation spawned from the combined imagination of Sinistar (aka Hollis) and the amazing musical talent and skills of Deacon (aka Ryan). Additional inspiration, beats, rhymes, and mad mic skills provided by the man myth and legend Britt. However, in the beginning Def Trigger was only words on paper and flowing in the imagination stream contained in Hollis's brain. That is until Deacon started reading my poems and said," Let's make a song Hollis". First off though, let me explain what Def Trigger is to me and the meaning behind the madness. Everything in life is a story. Every experience, interaction, thought, feeling, dreams, and whatever else occurs in your life. They are all stories that are winding out in front of you or unwinding inside of you. Stories fill every aspect of your life until you fall into a peaceful six foot hole where you face eternal rest. Even then stories will still go on fueling the imagination and teaching people lessons in life. Def Trigger in itself is exactly that. A story that travels into inner cities soul, the thoughts of insane people, and the tragedy of normal situations gone horribly wrong. In my world you can go from Pimp King of the street to a daughter who is consumed by her mothers soulless and greed fueled beliefs. It's a dark world I know, but it happens in everyday life and the world as we know it, is rarely bright at all. Right now, at this moment, Def Trigger has found its home in the dark and dangerous concrete jungles of the inner cities. Where Def Trigger lives tomorrow is unknown because stories change as lives do to. In any case, Def Trigger will always have a story to tell and the soundtrack to fuel it. Why old school soul? Why the hell not?! We chose soul because it needed to be done. Because soul fits this story the best and mainly because we miss soul so fucking much its scary. Remember when Al Green, The Spinners, Isaac Hayes, James Brown, The Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, and god knows who else was singing the songs about the streets? You know real songs about the streets with REAL pimps, REAL hustlers, and REAL G's. Good music with a point and a reason other than singing about fucking hoes, pumping up the club, how much bank they have, who they capped, and so on and so on. In our opinion a lot of todays soul and R&B is single minded, repetitive, and boring. Most of the soul songs of the present have barely any meaning at all. Def Trigger is here to change that and put old school soul back to its roots by filling it with something that has meaning and tells a story that teaches and hopefully inspires new music listeners to enjoy soul for what it used to be.
