MORDRED has been reinvented many times over the last 24 years with a host of different musicians and two distinctive styles, Thrash/Death Metal and Thrash/Funk Metal.

The band was formed in San Francisco in 1984 by Steve Scates, Alex Gerould, Art Liboon, Josh Juska and Brian Douglas Gilbert "Heavy Metal Drummer" - Lee Altus (Angel Witch, Exodus, Heathen, Bombthreat) joined briefly and helped develop the style of the songwriting in our "garage band" days.

Later lineups included Sven Soderlund (Mercenary SF), Slade Anderson (Mercenary SF, Supaphat), Keith Chadham, Jim Sanguinetti (Heathen) and Erik Lannon (Bay City Rollers, American Heartbreak, Proudflesh).

MORDRED performed live with many of the SF Bay Area metal brothers of the time - Possessed, Legacy, Testament, Warning SF, Assassin, Sacrilege, Death Angel, Exodus, Heathen, Suicidal Tendencies, Death, Desecration, Ulysses Siren, Rhythm Pigs, Cardinal Sin, Murder, Black Dethe, Second Shadow, Attitude Adjustment, Hirax, Battalion of Saints, Jetboy, Kix, JFA, and Watchtower.

Currently, founding members Steve Scates and Art Liboon and members of the first two lineups from the 1984-86 era are collaborating for the first time in 21 years to revive the original style and energy of the band's roots for some select live performances in their hometown of San Francisco. Erik Lannon and Sven Soderlund round out the four-piece band, digging into the past to resurrect some of their heaviest material.

This current project has the support of the many members of the band. Called MORDRED 1.0 and MORDRED 2.0 by the group, the original lineup was joined by members of the latter MORDRED (Scott Holderby, DJ Pause and Gannon Hall) to perform at the Benefit for the Family of Curtis Grant on April 12, 2007 with Anvil Chorus, Mercenary and American Heartbreak in San Francisco.

The lineup profiled on this page, the official MORDRED page maintained by the band, is continuing to pursue opportunities following the headlining performance on Saturday 7/7/07 at the 10th annual Tidal Wave Metal Festival in San Francisco. We thoroughly enjoyed playing this gig for a great crowd of west coast headbangers!

Recently recharged after a short hiatus, Liboon, Soderlund, Lannon and Scates are scheduled to enter the studio in September to record a professionally-produced demo. Some well-known bay area guitarists will most likely join us for some guest tracking - stay tuned! A demo release show in San Francisco will follow once the demo is produced and available - stay tuned!!

This is the next chapter in the nearly quarter-century history of a metal band that has never recognized boundaries. The current focus of this lineup is to continue to journey among its original metal roots, drawing on its early NWOBHM influences, as well as the more recent Death Metal and Viking Metal from Europe. Hammers High!!
