Death Disco was the first single released to promote the second PIL song-player 'Metal box',which was released as three slabs of 12'' vinyl in a shiny metal film canister.Rather pleasingly,these containers have darkened and oxidised down the years.'Death disco' is almost identical to 'Swan lake' from 'Metal box',but minus a little synth at the very end.Over a hypnotic Wobble bassline and 4/4 disco hi-hats,Lydon tackles the very personal subject of his mother's death,as the guitars scythe and switchblade around his bewailing.keith Lenine borrowed Tchaikovsky's melody,he was also paying (unwitting?) tribute to The Cougars minor 1963 hit 'Saturday Night At The Duck Pond'',which also used the Swan Lake as
its basis.
