Dean Meldau

Biography of Dean Meldau:

Talented newcomer, Dean Meldau’s first single ‘Beautiful’ on his h.i. debut album was released in April 2006. His brilliant lyrics and mature, soul-searching contemporary pop style make him one of the hottest young artists to be launched on the music scene.



The 26 year old solo artist spent two years in Los Angeles studying music at The Musician’s Institute. His stint in the States paid off in that it encouraged him to write not only the lyrics but also the music to his songs. All the music on his debut album was written by him.



He has appeared on music videos for Vanessa Carlton and Marc Anthony and was an extra in Matchstick Men, The Weakest Link and on The Dr Phil Show. He has performed at various venues around the world.



Dean has recently returned from performing in Europe where the music video for Beautiful was also shot. It was shot in Belgium by Uncut Films who have been recipients of several international awards.



He is presently involved in developing new material which he believes will be “an even greater step forward” than his current album has been. He is working with Liquid Grooves a well known music company in the South African and international industry. Dean is encouraged by their confidence in his future success: “Liquid Grooves have literally 'taken me under their wing', they are funding the recording of my new material with the intention of securing an international record deal.”



Beautiful is currently playlisted on over 30 different radio stations around South Africa. Dean has recently received an award from East Wave Radio (Rebel Power), for best album of 2006.



It is currently being promoted through performances throughout South Africa, with other great artists who are included in the promotional agenda for the spring season. Dean is also doing steamy live perfomances at a lot of the local South African hot spots.



Dean’s passion for music started at a young age. He had written his first song and formed his first band with school mates at the age of thirteen. He admits he wasn’t interested in the theory until he studied music full time at the Musician's Institute in L.A.



The inspiration for his first single ‘Beautiful’ came from his realisation of life's fragility, innocence and beauty. “At that time I had started making a conscious effort to appreciate the smaller things in life. Things I normally took for granted. I began waking up early to watch the sunrise. The smallest details became wonders - the way the wind blows through a woman’s hair, the way the sun shimmers on the horizon after a hot day. These were things that began impacting on me, they stuck in my mind and heart. I realised that real beauty experienced in a split second, can last forever. In the song I have compared beauty with the sunrise, the moonlight and 'a girl' and tried to highlight that beauty for me cannot be measured, that it is immortal.”
