Days Dirges does not make background music. He doesnt write songs that you play at tea parties or family gatherings. He doesnt want you to blindly nod your head to the beat when his songs are on. Days Dirges wants you to listen. He wants you to hear his views. He wants you to hear his ideas and witty word play. He wants you to hear his story.



Born on the east side of Baltimore City, Days Dirges was introduced to hip-hop by his older brother who is now deceased. He credits his elder sibling with nourishing his interest in hip-hop before he knew what the genre was called. As he listened and learned about hip-hop he was drawn to artists that exemplified what it means to be a lyricist; Rakim and Nas to name two. As hip-hop grew and changed Days didnt see him self aligned with the artists that became popular. He was drawn to the underground.



As the hip-hop climate changed in the late 90s, and the underground movement flourished, Days became interested in artists that were a bit left of center. He enjoyed Company Flows grimy sound and emphasis on lyrics. He was always interested in what the M.C.s had to say and the way that they conveyed it. From that era to the post Rawkus era where he began to admire artists from the Definitive Jux camp and from Eastern Conference records, Days has always been interested in lyrics.



As he begins his personal journey as an artist, and as he records his forth coming album, Days Dirges is crafting lyrics to make you stop and think. Hes not content with writing words to just sit on top of the beat. Hes creating lyrics to assault the listener and make you take heed to his message. Days Dirges wants you to really hear him.
