Growing up in Connecticut, Dayo's only focus in life was being creative in any way possible. From a young age, Dayo saw the world as his canvas, drawing and doodling on everything he could get his hands on. Luckily for him, his parents saw this as a positive sign and not as a child constantly trying to mess with his surroundings. In seeing this, Dayo's parents not only gave him the colors and tools he needed to create but they gave him what would be considered every child's dreamthe freedom to do whatever he wanted to do with his environment. Having an unrestricted space to create, Dayo painted every inch of every wall in his room, developing every world his imagination could squander up. This was his way of communicating what his mind wanted to say.Of course having this freedom came with a price. Being someone who relies on being creative to express his ideas and feelings, Dayo quickly realized that not everyone had the same desires, especially when it came to his high school peers. Unfortunately, for most high school students, being popular or should we say "normal" consists of sticking with what is considered cool, and in Dayo's situation, the words "art" and "cool" were never in the same sentence. In 1995, Dayo moved his life down to the Dirty South. So after packing the bare essentials, Dayo headed to Savannah, Georgia to attend the Savannah College of Art and Design to study Film and Video and to develop his creative tendencies with other artistic outcasts like himself. While attending the school, he was introduced to various new ways of creating such as sculpture and computers. However it was through his friends and roommates that he discovered the art of music and writing.During the five years of living in Savannah, Dayo was influenced by many musicians, artists and poets giving him the confidence he needed to move to the beautiful Bay Area, California. Upon arriving in San Francisco in 2000, he quickly felt at home because of the very open, artistic and cultural elements of the city and it's people. While living in the middle of the Bay on Treasure Island, Dayo meet Root One Music family members R-O and Ali, and the three instantly began connecting on a musical level that rarely gets seen in the world of mostly unoriginal, material hip hop. Together they formed Natural Disaster, a trio dedicated to creating old school grooves with a new school vibe. Since joining the Root One Family, he has found release in not only writing lyrics, but also in producing beats and creating art for all of the artists on the Root One label.Ever since falling in love with creating music, Dayo began writing non-stop, trying to push his mind's envelope and vocabulary to the max, finding extreme release in the complexity of words, ideas and concepts while consistently ridiculing the over-popularized, unimaginative industry that is hip hop music. Dayo grew up in an amazing time. A time when hip hop was considered a way of life, when it was a form of being musically and lyrically innovative, when it was about being creative and original, NOT about having an Escalade with 24's and a necklace that could put most families through college. Dayo not only strives to bring the true essence of hip hop back but he lives for being creative and his music is a reflection of that.
