David Tyrrell is the soul driving force behind the tingling new sensation The Soviet. David Tyrrell, already known for his excellent song writing and rapid vocals, is a well known face on the northern music scene. Following the release of his album ‘Substance’ in 2009 and his UK tour, DT is now ready for a new and expiring project which comes in the form of the much harder edged band The Soviet.

When DT first began his move onto our music scenes, his arrival was fast and enlightening, receiving raving reviews in many magazines and newspapers throughout the UK and music reporters like Ian Young BBC saying things like"if it was'nt for new artists like David shouting from the sidelines the music scene would cease to exist" and they have also mounted up masses of radio air time and soon built up enough fans to pack out 02 Academy Liverpool on his headlining tour. Some of the artists to of graced DT’s talent and his tour were Glen Matlock (The Sex Pistols) and the indie chart-topping band The Doves.

In 2008 DT recorded the track ‘The Entire World’ which soon caught the ears of an Oxford based record label resulting in the signing of a single deal early on in his career. At this point DT had no band members and was creating his music alongside electro based backing tracks playing every instrument. These were later produced with Neil Burne at Realistic Studio’s. Not long after this it was decided that to give these tracks justice on stage DT would need a live band to play with and with this joined Chris McKeown and John Mulholland. Still without a drummer the indie/electro trio kept the backing tracks, which added a uniqueness and was not the stereotypical scouse band and that soon spread across the underground music scene.

DT soon went on to win The Beat Goes On with the track ‘Believe’ through a public vote resulting them being put into the Liverpool World Museums Digital Jukebox. This led to a second record deal at OKRecords in Birmingham, giving the guys a chance to release a five track EP. Soon after this the guys began working with N3M Northern Music, a promotions company gave DT the chance to perform live on various radio stations, appear on SKY TV and perform for two years running at the ITC festivals. Unfortunately by the end of 2009 the band were feeling the strain and a break up was on the horizon.

Today DT’s new project consists of Ben Grant on drums, David Hall on guitar, Chris Mckeown on bass and David Tyrrell leading the band with vocals. This talented array of musicians now sparks together the band newly named The Soviets. The Soviets are now under the management of Neal Clague and are still working closely with N3M Northern Music. The boys are set to be releasing their chart topping single in July 2010, with two promo videos booked and a handful of massive magazine campaigns in place. With the likes of Brian Nash (Frankie Goes to Hollywood) and Geoff Pesche (Radiohead, Snoopdog, Kylie) working alongside these guys at their visit to the musical genius that is Abbey Road studios in London where they had also been interviewed by CBS News Americathese guys are not going to be staying quiet for long.

In the words of David Tyrrell himself ‘inside these words and behind these lines there’s so much more that I can’t explain’.
