Gotta say ive always been around music even though my family arent really musical people. When i was young and everyone was listening to whatever was in the charts me and my friend used to sneak his big brothers tapes and play them in his room.

Back then it was all about N.W.A, Public Enemy, Gravediggers, Cyprus Hill etc and it got me hooked on underground music.

When i was 16 i discovered beer and going round town, one day i went into a bar where a guy i did my trident with was djing, I started going there every week and one day he asked me if i could dj cos he couldnt make it. He told me all his tracks were there so i had a go and was immediatly hooked. Didnt do bad to say i didnt know what i was doing and it ended up turning into a regular thing when he couldnt make it and eventually i was offered his job as i was spending all free time looking for hip hop tracks to play and i ended up turning a bar where no one goes to into a bar that was packed every thurs fri and sat.

Instead of playing the pop tunes most bars were playing in donny i was playing hip hop and it was getting more and more popular. By the time i was 17 hip hop was getting big and i was playing sets in sheff for a bar that eventually turned into a pre bar for a night called quality which used to get rammed every week playing hip hop and garage.

Eventually i was djing every wed & sun. A chance trip to niche nightclub in 2001 for Richard Dolbys 21st helped me to discover speed garage and as all the stuff i used to play had big basslines i realised it suited me more.

i came to the decision that i should sell all my hip hop (Which i regret) and spend all the money on buying speed garage. Dolby also started buying speed garage and we came to the decision that we should play back to back and started handing out cd's to everyone in Doncaster.

At the time Richard was making hard house and trance for the guy who i used to play hip hop for and he got us a weekly residency in a club in Wakefild called foundation. We used to play in the small room every friday and it would cost us more to get there and back than we were getting paid but we didnt care because we loved it.

Paul who got us the set (shaolin master/Dj lapell) and a guy called QD had wrote an RnB track about the nights we used to go out and drink a few bottles of chardonnay before we got to the clubs and because we were playing speed garage every week Dolby decided to do a speed garage remix which was getting them bouncing every week so lapell did another remix and Gridlockd records was born.

Those that know of it, need no explanation Those that dont basically we have had over 20 releases all with original vocals.

The 4 years i was playing speed garage I was lucky enough to play at clubs such as Air, Works, Hidden, Emporium in coalville, Mint, lost lounge, rb's, aqua, boilerhouse, lingards, isis, radius and many more clubs up and down the country.

Eventually i started getting bored of the speed garage sound (every track using the same ideas) so had a year off from it all. During that time the only tracks i was buying was the 4x4 tracks which i used to buy before but never persued and eventually i started getting the 4x4 sets.

In november 2005 we approached ministry of sound and the wideboys about putting together a compilation of speed garage and 4x4 and we played on the blueprint, richie Vibe vee's show on radio one xtra to showcase the up and coming comp but it took over a year of hard work to finally get it on the shelves.(MAXIMUM BASS 2007. GO BUY THAT SHIT)

2007 has been a big year for me and now im putting 100% effort into it and it has seen me release 2 of my tracks on my own label G Bizniz which is basically a sister label of Gridlock'd Run by myself, Dolby and Paul stiks, also doing a licensed mix of Booty Luv - Shine for ministry of sound.

the back end of 2007 will see me pushing my own, paul stiks and other up and coming artists material as well as pushing myself as a dj. Personally i think of myself as a nice guy who will do anything to help anyone. And have always pushed to help the up and coming dj's/producers as i know how hard it is.

Anyone who needs help or has tracks they need pushing dont hesitate to get in touch and dont be upset if i dont answer u on here, just message me again as i get so many messages every day i sometimes lose track.

Peace

Dave Watson
