David Oluwaferanmi Balogun (born May 31, 1988), known professionally as

David B, is a Contemporary R&B singer-songwriter, musician, vocal producer, dancer, choreographer, and entertainer.

Born into a musical family in Ile-Ife, Nigeria, David first began his musical journey at the age of 2, predominantly with his gift in dance. Imitating moves from legends, such as Michael Jackson, was a conspicuous indication to his family that music was indeed going to be a major part of his life, just as God had told them prior to his birth, hence his name.

David is the youngest of three siblings born to Michael Balogun, a Consultant Cardiologist, Pastor, and former Recording Artist, and his wife, Iyabode Balogun, a Nurse and Elder at her local church. With an exposure to Christianity by his parents, David was actively involved in the church he grew up in, Christ Apostolic Church Bethel, Ile-Ife, where he sang with the youth choir and performed solo dances created by him.

David was part of a dance group called, Perfected Praise Generation Dancers (commonly known as P.P.G.D), which took the whole of Ile-Ife by storm, being called all over the city to perform. David recognised his gift in singing, but was more interested in dance at the time, and therefore put all of his time, energy, and focus into dancing.

In July, 2002, David moved to Manchester, UK to live with his mother. Attending The King of Kings School grounded him in the word of God.

“Most of the Bible Scriptures and profound truths and facts about God’s word that I know are from me going to The King of Kings School”.

Months after he moved to the UK in 2002, he recorded his first song written by him, titled ‘First Love’ – produced by James Ritchie. This song was well received by his peers and all who heard it.

“Infact, it’s still a favourite to some who heard it”.

Attending a vocal training course led by Elaine Hanley, affiliated with Owen Thomas’ Cultural Fusion, made David more aware of his singing ability.

“I clearly remember the day I sang ‘Greatest Love of All’ by Whitney Houston, and Elaine gave me a standing ovation. It was and is still one of my most memorable moments”.

On the same day he sang the song by Whitney, he was approached by Sam Adebanjo with a proposition to be a part of a group called ‘One’ which later became D.T.W.G. (Desire to Worship God). During this time, David formed a dance group called Nugen, consisting of youths affiliated with the church he attends – New Covenant Church. The group became a household name, performing at concerts in England. Nugen somewhat dissolved when its members left Manchester to go to their different Universities. They re-united at David’s sold-out EP Launch on 1st September, 2007; performing on stage with him. The 6-track album, PHASES – produced by James Ritchie, has been a success, earning him a lot of respect and love from his music contemporaries. While preparing for his EP launch, he was heavily involved in the recording process of D.T.W.G’s album – THE PROJECT, co-writing and recording both lead and backing vocals throughout the album.

“I am happy that D.T.W.G’s efforts on the album have paid off with being nominated for BEST GOSPEL ACT at the MOBO AWARDS 2009’’

David is also a well respected member of Manchester’s finest Gospel Choir – Manchester Singout Choir, under the leadership of Vocal Genius – Wayne Ellington.

David does a lot of background singing for artists both live and in the studio. Some of those artists include Kristyna Myles, Carla Ellington, Ni-cola, and Jeff Ejovi-ukiri.

At the moment, David has decided to embark on his music career more seriously. Leaving medicine to study a music industry course has proven to be one of the most difficult decisions he has had to make.

David is currently writing and recording for a range of artists and is also slowly but surely working on his album, which is bound to be a trail-blazer.
