The Engineer

Dynamic, hedonistic and a so called ‘sound freak’, Ben Ralph Sander Ellis has carved out a respected place for himself in Melbourne’s dance scene through his meticulous crafting of dark hard edged productions. During 2002/2003 Ben had a residency at a cutting edge hardstyle club, which was then managed by his ‘death proof’ brother DJ Hellraiser. It was during this time that Ben also made his DJ’ing debut at Melbourne rave institutions ‘Pharmacy’, ‘Two Tribes’, ‘Earthcore’, ‘Adventjah’ and ‘NYE Sunshine People’ and had his first vinyl release on ‘Future Sound Corporation’ - which was a joint a project between Devils Ear & ‘Klassic and Sanders'. Four more pounding releases came in succession, one of which was compiled on ID&T Hardstyle Vol 1 along side artists - Zany, Showtek & Deepack. With their mutual sick sensibilities and passion for distorted noise, early hardstyle & acid techno, Ben teamed up with DJ Hellraiser to form ‘Ad Nauseam’ and together they released the cult classic ‘House of 1000 Corpses’ sampling the Rob Zombie horror film of the same name. Ben soon came to produce under the project name DJ Hellraiser and their dark & dirty tracks were released on ‘Uberdruck Records’, ‘Tracid Traxxx’ and ‘StraightOn Black Recordings’. Over the last 10 years, Ben has had close working relations with both international and local artists, namely Kai Tracid, DJ X (Lez Lab4), The Scientist as well as Rob Klassic, Dr Willis, Trent McDermott & S-Dee. A current project with long time friend & pioneer of acid 303 sounds, Frank Ellrich aka A*S*Y*S, is a highlight of Bens musical career to date. The Engineer has also had the privilege of absorbing the large scale depravity of the Dutch dance scene when he spent time co-writing for artists in Holland and creating intro set trailers for a Polish hardstyle party during 2007. Today, Ben is a passionate producer & sound designer for whom a crossbreed of inspiration is derived from the complex visual artistry of H.R Giger; the literary works of H.P Lovecraft and the horror film scores of Charlie Clouser.
