When Darien talks about “a new place” on his new double-disc project, he’s hoping to create the kind of worshipful atmosphere for God to move “in the way He sees fit—whether that’s to heal, set free, deliver or to get someone saved.” Instead of the worship leader serving as the focal point for the audience, Darien prefers to just “step away so things can start happening.”



And it’s that fervent passion and a desire to capture an authentic worship experience that makes A New Place such a powerful listening experience. Unlike most live albums that hardly sound live at all with extensive overdubs, canned clapping and pristine production, A New Place’s imperfections allow the heart of the songs to shine through instead.



Another unique element of the album lies is its musical diversity on songs like “El Elyon,” “I Can’t Live Without You,” “One God,” “Grateful” and “Great High Priest.” Influenced by a variety of music genres, from jazz to funk to straight-ahead Gospel music, Darien describes A New Place as a contemporary hodge-podge of sounds. “I think diversity is what God is all about, he made all different kinds of music, so I think we should incorporate those into our worship.”



Darien believes that praise songs should also be accessible. Instead of looking for a clever turn of phrase lyrically, he writes his songs hoping that the Church will join in and sing along.
