BIO

Danny Lozada Guzmán is one of Cuban salsa's most talented singers, composers, and bandleaders.

Born in Havana, Cuba on April 27th in 1973, he began his musical career in 1991 with a group called Salsa de Esquina. In 1994, however he gained widespread public recognition when he became famous as a vocalist and composer for the group Conexión Salsera

After hearing Danny's first big hit in early 1996 - "Beso de Queso" - David Calzado hired him to sing lead vocals and to compose with Charanga Habanera, one of Cuba's most important contemporary salsa/timba bands. Danny developed an incredible creative chemistry with pianist/arranger Juan Carlos González, with the two of them playing defining roles in the landmark album, Tremendo Delirio, one of the most important and influential albums in all of Cuban music in the last two decades. For that album Lozada wrote, "Dime Si te Quedarás," " Lo Siento Por Tí," "Qué Quieres de Mí," "Usa Condón" amongst others. He also wrote the controversial "Mango" song, which was banned after its first performances for anti-government insinuations.

When Charanga Habanera was suspended by the Cuban government for.in August of 1997, after a nationally televised concert at La Piragua on the Malecón in Havana, Lozada and González set out to form their own group. At the suggestion of Juan Formell, director of Los Van Van they called the new group, "Danny Lozada y su Timba Cubana". They created an extraordinary album entitled, "Tanto le Pedí" which remains to this day a must have among fans of timba around the world.

All songs on Tanto le Pedi were written by Danny and arranged by Juan Carlos. the album, hopefully in 2007 and with further collaboration with Juan Carlos Gonzales, a much anticipated project.

After González moved to Europe in 1999, Danny played sporadically in Havana and made another album, "Lo Mejor de mi Corazón," a mixture of timba and various forms of pop. In 2005, he moved to Miami, and produced another CD called Bachason, which is a mix of Cuban Son with Dominican Bachata Rhythms. In 2007 he played his first West Coast tour including performances with world renonwed pianist, Chuchito Valdez, at the state of the art venue Anthology in San Diego . His NYC’s debut at Crash Mansion was filmed by ABC and he will return to Play SOB’s on September 28th. His performing and band-leading abilities are extraordinary and seeing him in concert is a requirement for anybody looking for a perfectly orchestrated, energetic, cultural experience.
