"Small hands" Daniel Cartier - Video
PUBLISHED:  May 02, 2008
DESCRIPTION:
I wrote this song in memory of Darcey, my closest childhood friend. She died tragically when she was only 4 years old. I was 6 at the time, and the loss for me was devastating.

This song has always been difficult for me to sing, but I promised some wonderful people who were very close to Darcey themselves that I'd attempt to document it.

I've tried my best to do the song and her memory justice. I hope that I have.

Small hands (for Darcey)

Small hands are all we used,
long ago on a day sun played
with shadows and haze.
Now my grown fingers get me by
But still all the time I
search for those small hands
that I used to know.
So long ago

I'll never... I'll never stop waving
I'll never... I'll never sweet child

Small eyes are all you saw through
They were shining in sunlight
They were calling me outside to play
But where went the lantern
in your kerosene eyes?
Somewhere in my dreams I swear I
can still see them shine

I'll never... I'll never stop waving
I'll never... I'll never sweet child
I'll never... I'll never stop waving
I'll never... I'll never...

Don't ever... Don't ever stop waving
Don't ever... Don't ever sweet child
I'm down here... I'll keep watching
I'll keep watching for your small hands
Are they waving to me from the sky?

I'll never... I'll never stop waving
I'll never... I'll never

Small hands
Small hands
are all we used
