The Rushes/Thirtysomething Hurts is Dan's latest release, on Original Sin's Image Muzik label, and, after support from Friction, Crissy Criss and Grooverider in the past, Blackout is set to continue his rise through the d&b field. With two firing tracks, the release will set tongues wagging and asses shaking.

The Rushes begins with a menacing opening, with cuts and scratches thrown across the mix. A developing piano sits underneath, before the drop is built up to in epic strides. A vocal line helps to bridge the gap, before the beats bounce back in. A finely layered arrangement is augmented with some deft engineering prowess, and the whole package is smooth and well put together. A slight move away from traditional Image Muzik territory, but one which will not disappoint fans both old and new.

Thirtysomething Hurts is equally impressive, with more sharp breaks underpinning elegant keys and emotive vocals, which emerge from the surrounding clouds beautifully. The track then winds its way around the central groove, with an emphasis on the mysterious and the unusual. Understated, and artfully intoxicating, Dan Blackout will gain many new supporters with this release. This one would not be out of place in the boxes of Friction or Andy C. With vibes turned up to 10, fans will be all over this one.
