The newest explosion of bilingual Latin, Reggae and Hip-Hop, former college basketball player Qba Libre was raised in Miami, Florida. Born Jezuz Alexander to Cuban parents, Qba was brought up by a single mother who quit school at the age of sixteen to raise him. Prior to Qba’s birth, his biological father was incarcerated for drug and gun running, but his mother did whatever necessary to put a roof over his head and keep food on the table. Qba grew up fast, hustling on the streets to make his way through school.

As a teenager, Qba’s father figure -- the man who helped raise him from birth -- was incarcerated for similar crimes as his biological father. The only prominent male role model remaining in Qba’s life was his grandfather, who had a rich musical and political history in Cuba. In addition to being one of the first music promoters in Cuba -- bringing jukeboxes into clubs and assisting Cuban musicians in profiting financially from their music -- Qba’s grandfather and Biological father were also involved in transporting Cuban emigrants to Miami during the Mariel boatlift movement of 1980. Also another big spark to Qba’s intense love for helping others is his close uncle who was a former political prisoner that was incarcerated due to the Bay of Pigs.

This influential man had a lasting effect on Qba, igniting a fire for music in him from a very young age. Music and basketball provided an avenue of escape for Qba, enabling him to overcome the adversity in his life, resist the temptations of his challenging surroundings, and afford him the opportunity to make a difference in the world, not only as an artist but also as a human being. After several years performing in clubs and at private parties and events in Miami, Qba Libre moved to Los Angeles to further his music and basketball careers. Qba began working with an array of talented producers, including Mike Biardi of Soundfile Productions, solidifying his inimitable style: his own distinctive blend of Caribbean Latin Hip-Hop and Reggae. Qba's unique style provided him the opportunity to work regularly in The Sunset Marquee Studio, one of the most well-known and respected studios in the U.S.

Most recently, Qba’s track Makuta was featured on the new Culver City Dub Collective alongside artists such Ben Harper and Jack Johnson. Qba recorded several tracks on the Nu Sounds of L.A. compilation for well-known UK producer David Harrow, flanked by tracks from members of the underground sensation The Visionaries. Qba just made history by becoming the first Latino ever to be featured on a compilation of Bob Marley remixes with his remix of Fussing and Fighting. Qba wrote and was featured on Somaya Reece’s track Mira Mi Pum-Pum, which broke online records, accruing over 3 million hits in just six weeks on . His track Sweat for Me was featured on Showtime’s hit show Sleeper Cell and his tracks Nada & God Damn both appeared in the independent movie Border Lost, which recently premiered at the Latin Film Festival at the Egyptian theatre in Hollywood. God Damn also appeared on Lions Gate Films “Confessions of a Street Fighter” which starred Flava Flav & Kool Mo De. With roots in both South Florida and the West Coast, Qba Libre is the newest flavor in the Hispanic Hip-Hop movement. The time has come for the world to get a good taste of Qba Libre’s distinctly Latino sabor.
