Coming out of the fertile and Blues-rich Mississippi,it is no wonder that Cricket Taylor has been drawn to the Blues.Until now,it has been what she is best known for.She and her mother moved to Texas when she was a child.Listening to old Soul and Blues records that belonged to her mother,Cricket knew that what she heard moved her for a reason. It was soulful, and it was real…

For better or for worse,Cricket has been pigeoned-holed as a Blues singer. What most people Don’t know about Cricket,is that she is also a very prolific writer,as well as a visual artist.

She has written over 200 songs, many unrecorded, yet some featured in films, one for example is,“She Gets What She Wants”,featuring Piper Parabou. She has also sang vocals on over 20 different records,in addition to putting out 2 of her own records.

She has played shows with such greats as Etta James,Dr.John,Jerry Lee Lewis,Stevie Nicks,BB King,

Stevie Ray Vaughn,Reverend Horton Heat,Rhett Miller,Ian Moore,and many more,just to name a few.

“ I started playing clubs when I was just 18.I met Jim Heath(Rev. Horton Heat) very early on,and he was a real help to a very young and naïve me,at the time.He introduced me to everyone he knew, and would tell club owners,’You need to give her a show here.’

“This started a snowball effect.Once we started playing,it was all taking off very quickly, and I was not really prepared for the wild rollercoaster ride that would then ensue.Although the attention was great, I hadn’t then really discovered who I was as an artist.I was doing mainly Blues then, but still writing my own stuff in the form of poetry, that would later become songs.”

Since then,I’ve experimented with many forms of performance art and music.I’ve had an all-girl punk band,a soul band, various Blues bands,as well as playing Country and producing electronic music too.

This has all been part of my journey. And through all of this I continue to grow and change as a musician/artist.

What I’m doing now…

The Electro-Magnetics,is a concept I’ve been honing in on for the last two years. It is a project that combines all of my experiences,as well as focuses on a host of new,yet unrecorded(so far) ,original songs.

The vibe is a dark ,sensual sound that would be great back-ground music for a David Lynch or,Quintin Tarrantino film.

The lyrics tell stories of love and ask questions about salvation.Stories that hit you way down deep, places which have never been seen or felt ,I hope.In these times of internet and technological madness, I understand that there is very little out there to be deemed “original” these days, but I do think that what it is we are doing has substance and soul in it.And that ,in my opinion, cannot be denied.”
