Rest In Sleaze - Some call it turning back time, I would call in looking into the future, says Martin Sweet from Crashdîet about the so called Hard rock trend. CRASHDIET are four guys from Stockholm who play rock inspired by the Los Angeles hard rock scene of the eighties and the nineties. The bands first single - Riot In Everyone created a great stir in the Swedish video and radio charts. August 2005 saw the release of their debut album Rest In Sleaze. CRASHDIET were formed in Stockholm at the beginning of 2000 and with dreams of rock stardom, threw themselves into the rehearsal studio. Unfortunately everything that could go wrong, did go wrong; huge rifts, bloody brawls and other distractions which culminated in a break-up before theyd hardly got going. Then in 2002, half of the band was changed and suddenly everything fell into place. With sights set on the eighties hard rock scene and a sometimes exaggerated fascination with the rock edifices slightly dubious supporting pillars (sex, drugs and rock´n roll) everything began in earnest. Now in 2005 the band are releasing their debut single Riot In Everyone. Its pretty clear that, up to now, theres been a vacuum as far as hard rock goes. We can play a gig for 1200 kids with big hair and skinny spandex covered legs, who just stand there screaming. So its even cooler when ZTV or MTV and the others play our rock-hard video which gets to be one of the most played clips alongside old ladies like J-Lo, or whatever shes called, says singer, Dave. Yeah, its clear that product pops heyday will soon come to an end, says Martin. CRASHDIET are: Dave Lepard, 25 singer and guitarist Martin Sweet, 25 guitarist Peter London, 22 bass player Eric Young, 20 drummer Crashdiet have played venues all over Sweden ranging from youth clubs to punk rock parties. In a time when the pop and hip-hop reign over the radio and the charts, Crashdiet have slowly but surely built up a strong fan base in both Sweden and abroad. We get e-mails and enquiries from all around the world. Weve already got festivals booked for summer 2005 and 2006. It feels great, says Peter. The band came into contact with Stockholm Records in June 2004 after being discovered outside a booze shop in Stockholm. The bands demo containing the songs, Riot In Everyone and Out of line reached the record company and a contract was soon forthcoming. The single Riot in Everyone was recorded in Stockholm at the end of 2004. Soon after this, a single found its way to one of the classic rock clubs of Stockholm, Kool Katss DJs who immediately began playing it. There was an enormous response and the single became one of the most sought after among the rock clubs discerning audience. The nice thing about this group is that you really feel that the music and the attitudes coming from the heart. They make me think of similar groups from the eighties like Hanoi Rocks, says Ludde Lindström at the Kool Kat club. Crashdiet are constantly talked about on many of the Internets rock communities. Lots of rumours and bizarre stories concerning the bands life style have begun to flourish. When the band are confronted by some of these rumours, they reply: Were not bothered about anything weve done. Ok, maybe we wont always be proud of our eccentricities but we stand by everything we do, says Eric. Crashdiets video for Riot In Everyone was filmed in a run-down recording studio in Uppsala. A place that Dave used to live in until being thrown out by the landlord. The video even includes footage of the bands visit to the Riot-festival outside Göteborg. One meets a blessed selection of societys more marginalized groups; everyone from lost reagge fanatics to more dubious groups. Accordingly, Crashdiet have a distinctly simple attitude to politics: We are completely non-political. We just dont give a shit. We let others worry about it. Its partly what Riot In Everyone is about, says Dave. The minute Riot In Everyone started spinning in Scandinavia the interest from other countries grew rapidly. June 2005 sees the first performance in the UK at the prestigious Download Festival. Although unknown, no less that 5000 people came to see Crashdiet perform. it´s so fucking great to see that almost every country has a great hard young hard rock band that is breaking the charts. Even the credible music media in the UK are starting to wake up and seem to have gotten tired of 50 Cent and his lame posse, says Peter London.
