New York City singer songwriter Craig Lawrence is living his second life as an artist. His first was an all electronic act inspired by the music played at New York City's, now defunct, Limelight. His group's dark brooding dance club sound was well liked by DJs at Buffalo's Club Icon and Niagra Falls City Limits and was also played on CFNY, Toronto's alternative radio station where Craig was interviewed on air. As Craig explains it, "We received a lot of positive feedback which I had not expected. I went to school for a degree in business, but instead, I found my true passion was creating music, so I focused on it every free moment I had."
After college, Craig returned to his native Queens New York and then on to Manhattan where he continued to work with other musicians on various electronic projects. After hearing Craig play one of his acoustic songs, however, one producer said to him "forget about electronic music, just do that!". So playing the same classical guitar he begged his parents to buy him in second grade, Craig began performing his own material in Lower East Side venues. "But it was still dark and depressing…" Craig laughs. I remember one show where people had lined up about seven drinks on the stage for me throughout the performance. Craig says laughingly "after what they heard, I guess they must have thought I really needed it!"
Craig's second life in music took place on 9/11. "I hadn't written a new song in years" Craig recalls, "but after feeling so grateful to have made it home safely from my job down at the World Trade Center, I felt the urge to create again"; this time, however, it was an uplifting song. That day began a ten year journey that has culminated in Craig's solo debut, a ten song EP titled On The Line that is bound to put a smile on your face.
With vocal confidence and charisma to match Anthony Keidis or Jack Johnson, strong hooks and clever backing arrangements, this album is pure fun, romance and passion.
On The Line takes the listener on a journey through a winding path where the final stop is true love. You can still hear Craig's dance hall chops loud and clear on songs like Stay With Me and Let It Show, while On The Line, with its dynamic electric guitar riffs feels like a rocket ride with the new love of your life at your side.
Craig's affinity the for the ethereal is also on display on intimate songs like Free and All My Dreams Forgotten where angelic female vocalists seem to hypnotize as they sing backup to Craig's heartfelt lyrics.
On The Line is about putting yourself out there and taking risks to commit to whatever or whoever you love. This album will leave you feeling like anything in life is possible.
