Dr. Cortex is set to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Tinchy Stryder, Chipmunk and Professor Green by becoming the hot new property on the hip hop scene.
Dr. Cortex is already causing a stir in the music industry. He has performed at festivals alongside Shola Ama and Lethal B, and supported Chipmunk and Tinchy Stryder at showcase event 'Bring it back'. He has also featured on a Sony BMG 'Mixtures' mixtape (Last man standing).
The emerging hip hop star was born in Jamaica, before moving to London, UK in 2001. His 'Dr. Cortex' nickname came from his love of the mad scientist character in the 'Crash Bandicoot' game, and also derives from his academic interests – he is currently studying for an aerospace engineering degree, and wants Sir Richard Branson to include him on the bill for the first music event in space!
Dr. Cortex is on a mission to create beautiful music, for anyone who wants to be entertained, uplifted and inspired. He is not tied to one genre of music, but mixes elements of Hip Hop, Funky, Dancehall and Commercial sounds for a fresh, exciting sound. He is also a writer and producer and his ambitions include collaborations with the likes of Jessie J, Estelle, Tinie Tempah and Jay Sean just to name a few.
The Dr. Cortex sound is catchy and one of his specialities is his ability to get his audience to sing along even if it is their first time hearing the song. Developing a musical relationship with old friends Ziggy Funk, Dr. Cortex recorded his first solo Mixtape 'The Core of the Text', which was released online for free downloads in 2007, to his online MySpace fan base. After that, he also started to focus on his education and believes this has helped to support his passion to spread a positive message. He is currently working on his new Mixtape entitled 'Cut from a different Texture' and his debut LP called 'Party like a student'.
Dr. Cortex is currently working with producers Special T and D-Nyce, and is passionate about sending out a positive message, spreading the word that dreams are achievable and that you can achieve whatever you want to achieve – but you have to go out there and get it. Dr. Cortex also wants to promote a message that while life will always present challenges, if you stay focused and determined you can achieve positive things.
