CORDERO
Ani Cordero founded the bilingual indie-rock band in Tucson, Arizona in early 1999. She borrowed members of Tucson's Calexico and Giant Sand and called the group by her Puerto Rican family name, Cordero.
By 2000, Ani had moved to New York City and reformed the band with her husband, music/art star, Chris Verene (formerly of Merge Records' The Rock*A*Teens and D.Q.E. )
Cordero quickly grew to a national level through two albums on Amy Ray's Daemon Records. Now signed to Chicago-based label, Bloodshot Records, Cordero has expanded their reach with the release of two more studio albums and an ever-growing reputation for blazing live shows.
The band has played in venues and festivals across the US and Canada including Radio City Music Hall, Chicago World Music Festival, Bumbershoot, and Montreal Jazzfest. Cordero has also toured or collaborated with Los Lobos , Indigo Girls, Calexico, Ozomatli, Neko Case (part of her Tigers sessions), Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra , Luna, Lucero, Smokey and Miho, and The Wailers (Bob Marley).
Ani is currently working on a solo album of songs from Latin America from 1930's-1970's co-produced by Sergio Dias of Os Mutantes.
