In 2003, five extremely talented musicians from Jerusalem, Israel, and Baltimore, Maryland , found each other and came together to form one of the most unique and dynamic forces in the music world as we know it today. Suitably named “Coolooloosh”, a Jerusalemite word for celebration and joy; this is precisely what the band Exudes with each and every exciting performance. Performing around the world with their intelligent blend of genres, Coolooloosh combines Hip Hop, Rap, Jazz, and Funk with the local sounds of Israel and Jerusalem. Consistently, pushing the envelope, the band is destined to break internationally.
A diverse group of individuals, from varied musical backgrounds the band consists of Rebel Sun (MC) ,Yuval Gerstein (Guitar and Vocal), , Ori Winokur (Bass and vocal), Yogev Shitrit (Drums) and the 2 new band members: Ongy Zisling (Saxophones) and Roy Harmon (Trumpet) .
Originally from Baltimore, Maryland in the fall of 1999, Joel ( Rebel Sun ) moved to Israel. This leads to the question the artist is commonly asked "Why Israel ?.What made you come to Israel?"He answers "Well I real just wanted to see the country for myselfBeing the fact that I am a jew it sould be natural in some way." He remarks ".after just stay for a short while i felt home" Later he adds "as i start to only check the music seriously two years later i started working with dj's and mc's from Jerusalem and Tel Aviv and i was impressed by the art." By 2002 Rebel Sun was a cornerstone in the underground scenes. To this he states " I was doing what an mc doesmake music spit'n freestylesthen i met Ori and it all changed, he told me about his band and that i should check them out." He laughs " It took three months but it happened and the rest is history"
The band started its international career with an extremely zealous show at the renown Sodra Theatre in Stockholm Sweden in May 2007, Coolooloosh then forged on to continue an extremely successful and productive tour of Europe performing in the UK, Germany, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, France, and Hungary, including the well known “Spancirfest” festival in Croatia, gaining major attention and vast amounts of new fans at every show.
At the invitation of Grammy® nominated engineer/producer David Ivory (The Roots, Patti Labelle, Erykah Badu) the band traveled to the US in January of 2008 to record their new full length album "Elements Of Sound" with Ivory at the helm. “These guys are really something special and unique. When my associate brought them to my attention, it was a no-brainer that I had to work with them” stated Ivory.
Featured on this album are the Soul Legend – Bunny Sigler (Instant Funk , The O’Jays , Patti Labelle )and the world famous percussionist Pablo Batista (Alicia Keys , Jill Scott , Diana Reeves) which lead to future collaborations on stages in Israel and the states.
"Elements Of Sound" is distributed in Israel by a major record label and is available Internationally online @ Itunes , Amazon , Rhapsody , Napster and many more.
In conjunction with the recording Coolooloosh toured across the US, including a shows at the prestigious Kennedy Center in Washington DC , Avalon in Los- Angeles , House of Blues in San Diego and finished the USA tour with a sold out show at the well known Joe’s Pub in Manhattan. In July 2009 Coolooloosh were invited to play at the world renown Montreal Jazz Festival which opened up an extended Canada - USA summer tour. Come October 2009 the band returned to America for the CMJ music marathon in NYC where they received massive attention and media acclaim.
In 2010 Coolooloosh are expected to tour South America in February , Europe in May and USA and Canada in the Summer.
Look for this emerging artist to take the world by storm and break wide open onto the scene and quickly become a powerhouse in the international music community.
