"We're Conscious Youths 'cos we’re “C” "Y".

Time to ‘See Why’”

CONSCIOUS YOUTHS is hip-pop music tinged with an added reggae flavour.

CONSCIOUS YOUTHS is freedom sounds - rhymes of these chaotic times.

CONSCIOUS YOUTHS is - if you will - "thinking man's rap" in this era of meaningless bling-bling and hateful animosity.

CONSCIOUS YOUTHS deals with real issues.

CONSCIOUS YOUTHS is a blast of positive energy, an army of Love amongst masses of haters, a beacon of light in pitch-black darkness.

CONSCIOUS YOUTHS consists of three MCs with three different styles; Mr Singh aka CapeNape, Redrama and Paleface along with special guest Promoe featured on three songs. All recognized in their own right.

CONSCIOUS YOUTHS is like a giant yin-yang-symbol in four parts, with each member bringing something unique to the table, making the emblem whole.

CONSCIOUS YOUTHS is one purpose. Meaningful music with a heart-felt message and an explosive live-show

CONSCIOUS YOUTHS is something else.

A recent web posting hailed them this way “Paleface, Redrama, Mr.Singh (and Promoe) have joined forces! The result is like an urban version of Crosby, Stills, Nash (and Young)! The microphone switches hands smoothly as the speakers emanate four individual vocal styles on top of bass-heavy rhythm tracks. Each MC comes through rock solid and versatile, making the C.Y. cipher complete.

CAPENAPE is the frontman of Helsinki-based reggae-outfit CapeNape and the Foundation. Well-known for his strong vocals and tireless stage presence, "Captain Nape" adds smooth harmonies and spiritual vibes to the mixture.

REDRAMA is one of the most celebrated Finnish MC's rhyming in English. Besides touring around Europe supporting the legendary Gangstarr, Lil' Red has released two critically acclaimed solo albums. Red has also received the European Border Breaker Award in 2004. Red's melodic rhyme style is truly off the radar!, Red also did the FIFA Anthem for 2008 champions league with Shaggy

PALEFACE has been around Finnish hip-hop since it's very beginning and to some his name is synonymous with the genre itself. Besides releasing music, he's been involved with translating books and poetry into English. Pale has also established himself as one of the more recognized personalities in Finnish radio. Three solo albums on - he's set to make another bench mark with the Conscious Youths Crew.

Featured guests:

PROMOE has established himself as one of Scandinavia's finest. The Swedish MC is best known for his involvement in the Looptroop crew as well as his dancehall-flavoured solo albums. The dreadlocked rapper stands united with his Finnish counterparts.

NORWOOD FISHER plays subtle bass on “Keep It Burning” after a nice afternoon together getting reacquainted in Venice Beach. Norwood is of course still part of the legendary genre busting Fishbone as well as Trulio Disgracias.

STEVE LEE plays a tasteful guitar solo on the outro on “9 To 5”. Steve is guitarist for roots rock band The Sorentinos from the San Francisco Bay Area and producer/manager for UK singer songwriter Sadie Jemmett. Steve was cajoled into adding to the record at the spur of the moment inspiration by CY.

The album was put together guerilla style in Redrama's downtown Helsinki apartment. There was no plan other than making music together to break away from their individual scenes. As the session proceeded the boys withheld hassle from neighbours and even random visits by the police asking to please turn it down. In between recording, the cats flew to Malmoe, Sweden to cut Promoe's verses.

When the tracks where finally finished, C.Y. packed their gear - hard disks and all - and flew out to Los Angeles to mix the mother with David Bianco (LL Cool J, Tom Petty, Ozzy Osborne, Masters Of Reality…)@ Dave's Room out on Lankershim in NoHo. The final master was then put expertly together by Eddy Schreyer at Oasis Mastering Burbank.

A rainbow of songs resulted from the straight up “Don’t Worry” a positive tease of what was to come. “don’t worry, I’m gonna be ok…” the first hip hop song to be added to noted YLE-X pop rock radio station…….this just isn’t done.

First official single “Play” is just going out as of this writing but is looming large to stake a claim that the CY boys are here to PLAY and play hard. A video produced by Fake will be in the offering.

The crucial positive message is that it is not too late. U-Turn" throws us in the middle of hectic Jamaican backbeats ".we got to change our ways that's what Conscious Youths learned / headed for self-destruction 'til we took a U-Turn."

"See Why" is a selection of kick-ass beats and rhymes about. um. what not…LIFE…chickens and the urban hustle, "the wicked man", "working 9-to-5", the everyday struggle and more worldly topics like the post and renewing cold war era.

These guys are putting fun back in the funk and then again while rhyming on a more serious note. Life's a gift - you know.

".A perfect ten from beginning to end."

LIVE! LIVE! LIVE! Conscious Youths performs either with a skilled DJ on the sound system tip or a five-piece back-up live line-up.

Members of the C.Y. have been opening shows for the likes of Snoop Dogg, Nas, Mark B and Blade, Run-DMC, Matisyahu, Redman, GZA, Paris, 50 Cent and The Herbaliser, Ja Rule, to name a few.

This is CY so go out and “See Why”!
