'Confidence is the keyword for letting go of the constraints that
inhibit us from true expression'. This Redz has learnt on an
undulating journey that has taken him from his Birmingham birthplace, the second of four sons born to a Jamaican father and an English mother in the 60s, to the independent artist he is today.
In an atmosphere of racial unrest that had him 'locked up' at the age of 15, he emerged inspired by the rich music culture he grew up with & combined with Rastafarian philosophy saw a young rude boy Redz sporting a natty Afro as he began to develop his craft. Redz first experience of the industry 'and flying' was being whisked off to the
US in business class in the 90's on a major record deal whirlwind and
extensive radio tour. A far cry from a later complete reinvention as an independent artist building from the ground up and producing his own
debut Colonel Red album 'Blue Eye Blak' at the turn of the new millennium!,
then followed by Redz' second solo album Sweet Liberation, and last but not least the Keep Walkin' album released 2011.
Redz a renowned musaholic working around the clock in his studio,
Tribal Rhymes, concocting his very own blend of elastic future wave
soul. Embracing his debut release the SpaceSleep EP with R&S/Apollo Records, bringing the unique and original sound of CoLoNeLReD to the foreground
once again after an incredible release of collaborations around the world with
a very impressive array of producers on many projects of many genres.
Apollo in recognizing CoLoNeLReD's broader and unique worldwide appeal signed the artist in the belief that Redz music needs to be heard outernationally.
Redz is currently developing together with Apollo the sound, shape and size of an
amazing album to come, which essentially is a blend of raw and refined rhythmical
beats, spacious rich bass, slinky emotional keys, raunch guitar, laced over with prophetic
poetry and painstaking soulful vocals together creating an atmosphere of urban street kungeon type sophistication. The underpinning fusion of jazz, gospel, funk and blues are ever present when CoLoNeLRed is at the helm.
Redz has worked with and written for, such artists as, Maurice White,
Lenny White, Alex Acuna, Amp Fiddler, Keith Sweat, Teddy Pendegrass
Anita Baker, Jerry Hey & the Seawind Orchestra, Shara Nelson, Lisa Lisa &
the Cult Jam, Sandra St Victor, IG Culture,Bugz in the Attic, Ursual Rucker, Tony
Allen, Jon Hassel, Dwight Trible, The Last Poets, Brian Jackson & many more soul legends.
