"Here's three chords, now start a band, as the t-shirt goes. It's old wisdom, but the simple message has been lost on a generation of bands whose main aspiration seems to be to overcomplicate matters. Cobra Khan are too smart, and perhaps too old, for that. Instead they bulldoze their way into your ear canal with decidedly non-convoluted arrangements and an intent that borders on malevolent. Nothing so obvious for these Aucklanders though, as they cloak their lyrical themes pretty effectively. You get their point though; it's communicated through the directness of the music. Straddling the old punk-metal divide is never an easy ask, but these four somehow achieve it. Moreover, they've totally nailed their renowned live intensity on Helgorithms. You can virtually feel the air move under the pressure of the bass and the pummeling drums. The guitars are more impressive yet, storming ahead with an urgency seldom heard on a New Zealand rock album. On this debut effort Cobra Khan has somehow bottled their musical passion. This has got to be one of the local releases of the year."

Canta:

"Cobra Khan's second offering proves that NZ music can still play with the big boys of the world's hard rock acts, especially considering that when playing at BDO a finger nail being ripped off the bassist's finger did nothing except add a touch of bloody class to a great performance. Helgorithms, therefore, is not for the faint of heart, you will not find cookie-cutter tunes here, your ears will be mercilessly tossed around in a musical endeavour that is sure to bruise something important."

Undertheradar:

"Oh lordy, Cobra Khan has returned with a vengeance. You could have expected an album with a radio angle but instead Cobra Khan have totally re-invented themselves with a sound that could surely see them take on NZ but easily further ashore. It comes across as big-industrial rock rather than metal; think Killing Joke, early Shihad and a nod to some of Sommerset's rockier moments. I reckon they've nailed it, and I pledge my allegiance."

NZROCK:

"There are good CDs and then there are the CDs which people will be referring to as influential for the years to come. I'm certain that time will prove 'Helogrithms' ticks both of those boxes. Easily one of the top NZ music releases of 2008. Listen loud to experience maximum transcendence! Listen even louder to generate a gelogical event of cataclysmic dimensions"
