Clã, a band of six musicians, signed by EMI Portugal, released their first album in 1996 – LusoQualquerCoisa.
In 1997, the second album, Kazoo, along with a very busy national tour, took them to Brazil and Macau, on their first shows outside Portugal.

The same year, Clã accepted a challenge made by the LISBON EXPO 98 (world exhibition) - a project called Afinidades with Sérgio Godinho – one of the best portuguese songwriters and artist. This partnership was a recognized success and resulted on a national tour and a live album - Afinidades – Clã e Sérgio Godinho, one of the best selling records in Portugal.

Their third record, Lustro, was released in 2000. Nominated to Blitz Awards, they won the awards for Best Female Vocal, Best National Band and Best National Album. With an extensive national tour, Lustro was also released in France, and the band played in Paris, Bordeaux and Barcelona.
Interested in art, as a whole, Clã were invited by Porto 2001 – Portuguese Capital of Culture to compose and play live an original soundtrack for a classical silent movie. The band chose "Nosferatu" by F.W. Murnau (1922). The film-concert Music for Nosferatu continued on a national tour with the Murnau Foundation approval.
Rosa Carne, Clã' s fourth album, was considered by critics one of the most important albums of 2004 and was presented live all over the country.
Famous for their electrifying performances, Clã decided to register how they sound and look on stage by releasing, in October 2005, a live double CD called Vivo and a DVD entitled Gordo Segredo, both critically acclaimed by the press.
After an international adventure through Brazil, Macau, Spain and France, they got back to studio to record their fifth album, Cintura. Luminous, adventurous, sensual and well humoured, this record continues the collaboration with great portuguese and brazilian songwriters (such as Carlos Tê or Arnaldo Antunes) with curious and poetic lyrics. Cintura was released in October 2007, with Tira a Teima as the first single, and a tour starting in theatres and closed venues.
Sexto Andar and Vamos Esta Noite were the following singles, both with animation videoclips by Laurie Thinot, a young french director.
The Cintura Tour continued, this time on the bigger stages of the summer festivals and outdoors concerts. Festival SBSR, Delta Tejo, Sudoeste and Rock in Rio (in this show with Pato Fu as special guests) were some of the summer festivals where the band performed.

In 2009, the band continues to work on taking their music outside Portugal – Clã participated for the first time at South by Southwest - Austin, Texas (USA), one of the main Internacional Music Festivals, made their official presentation in Madrid, Spain, at the end of April and will be playing in Budapest (Hungary) the 26th May.

Brazil is another destiny for Clã – a compilation of songs from the first four albums of the band is going to be released soon, and live performances in São Paulo are scheduled to July.
