Chris J

Born and raised in the heart of Memphis, Tennessee, Christopher "Chris J" Johnson, singer/songwriter was a young prodigy destined for greatness. Chris J began his musical career traveling the world as one of the lead singers of his older brothers cover band. His experiences not only introduced him to the sultry world of R&B and soul, but it allowed him to master its technique. Chris J's style and delivery garnished rave reviews for the band and the young prodigy. In an effort to express himself more creatively he later left the band and began writing, producing and performing his own songs. Embodying the essence of soul with every performance Chris J was quickly coined "R&B sensation of the south."



Chris J's solo efforts have garnished award winning and record breaking performances and showcases in front of crowds of over 16,000 people. In 2005 Chris J became the first Memphis artist to perform at the Fed Ex Forum and was one of the top contestants for Gospel Dream. He has opened up for and graced the stages with some of the industry’s most legendary acts, from R&B, Soul, Rap to Athletics and even Comedy. Chris J has graced the stage with notables such as Gerald Levert, Will Downing, Anthony Hamilton, Calvin Richardson, Midnight Star, Bobby Valentino, Lloyd, Escape, Omarion, and Jaheim. He has opened up for tours such as The Urban CrossRoads R&B and Hip Hop tours. The R&B sensation has even made an impact in the athletic realm of entertainment by co headlining the Antonio Taver/Glenn Johnson pre-fight Extravaganza with Nick Cannon.



In 2008, Chris J signed with Big Gates Records after several successful performances on BET’s 106th & Parks Wild Out Wednesday competition series. His record deal lead to his first national placement on Slip N Slide artist Trina hit song "I Got A Problem" also featuring Big Gates/Slip N Slide/Atlantic artist Plies from her 4th album “Still Da Baddest. Deemed “The future of R&B/Soul” for his sultry musical renditions and no stranger to hard work, Chris J. quickly landed his 2nd national feature that same year on label mate Plies first official single from his 3rd album “Da REAList” on the radio hit “Put It On Ya.”



With a new record deal and a resume that has proven steadfast, Chris J remains humble and grateful for his "God-given gift of song." When asked about his music, Chris J passionately states "I make feel good music that people can feel from beginning to end." Bringing the essence back to R&B/Soul while introducing a new style of music, singer/songwriter/producer Chris J is undoubtedly impacting the music industry.



Chris J. is currently in the studio preparing for his first studio album on Big Gates Records slated for a 2009 release.
