Chisel formed in 1990 at the University of Notre Dame, playing its first gig at a football game tailgater. In 1994, the band reformed in Washington DC. Between 1994 and 1997, Chisel released an EP and singles collection Nothing New and two albums 8 AM All Day and Set You Free on Gern Blandsten Records. The band toured with Fugazi, Make-Up, Velocity Girl, Fuzzy, Lungfish, Karate, Blonde Redhead, Tuscadero and shared bills with Radiohead, the Cranberries, the Lemonheads, Steel Pulse, King Face, Slant 6, Sleater-Kinney and many more. In 1997, the band broke up midway through touring for its second full-length album. Chisel played its last show in Knoxville, TN on May 16, 1997.
