Chicago's CHANDELIERS create uplifting, psychedelic, shimmering sounds using a mix of live and electronic instrumentation. Early members of Chicago's vibrant and eclectic synth-rock scene, alongside bands like Mahjongg, CAVE, Lazer Crystal, the band established themselves in 2008 with the release of "The Thrush" on Obey Your Brain records.
Following up with the kaleidoscopic "Dirty Moves" (Captcha Records, 2009), whose 33 tracks traverse the musical map and run through an array of styles; with nods to the Krautrock forbears, avant dancefloor sounds from the 80s 90s and global psychedelia of many kinds. Engaging in an open-eared improvisational interplay, CHANDELIERS fearlessly blend influences into a insistent, unique, and addictive sound present it in a way that not only makes sense, but you can dance to it.
An untitled split EP with MAHJONGG is planned for release in Fall 2010, CHANDELIERS are focusing on a poppy, psychedelic dance vibe throughout.
The band's live show blends electronics with live instrumentation and an intense light show. They recently had a headlining spot at Baltimore's WHARTSCAPE d.i.y. Music Festival.
Erstwhile tours and 1offs with: Man Man, Mahjongg, Cluster, the Very Best, Yeasayer, Javelin, Sleigh Bells, Blues Control, Nite Jewel, Indian Jewelry,
Atlas Sound,, Dungen, Icy Demons, Pictureplane, HEALTH.
PRESS:
"Chandeliers are too ecstatic to be considered within synth-pop--however, synths and pop, yes--carrying on the unpredictablility of improvised electronic music with the pure ecstatic fun of an artist like Dan Deacon. In other words, a most excellent time slot to lose yourself." Whartscape ZOIO preview - Baltimore City Paper
"Slick Ray-Ban-ready keyboard melodies, and day-glo funk fall into place like pistons in an engine. It's both moody and danceable" –Pitchfork
"Mesmerising Minimalist Synth Tweakers" –Time Out
"Sounds like a mixtape made by the dude with the ill Krautrock collection who's dating a dancer into Afrobeat and old UK downtempo" –Scissorkick.com
"Enough references — Zapp, Kraftwerk, Moroder, Prince — to safely imply that everyone involved has an absolutely killer record collection.” –Chicago Reader
"Displays the stunning artistic flexibility of a group percolating with ideas and restlessly pursuing possibilities" –Gaper's Block
Best of 2009 (Dirty Moves)–Reckless Records, WFMU
