cecilia finotti. singer. composer
she began first with classical music, studying piano as a child; she then became interested in jazz thanks in part to her father, amateur bass and vibraphone player and jazz lover.she studied vocal technique in Rome with alessandra gonzaga and in Bologna with paride venturi.
in summer1996 she attended the clinics of Berklee College, Boston, organized by Umbria Jazz in Perugia.
she also partecipated in March 1999 in a workshop led by norma winstone on vocal technique and performing standards.
at the same time she deepened the study of harmony with mauro campobasso and alfredo impullitti and, in summer 1999, she partecipated in the workshops of Siena Jazz where she followed the courses led by stefano zenni, bruno tommaso, pietro tonolo. she also partecipated in the workshop of marsala jazz led by maria pia de vito.
in March 1999 she recorded her first cd “a flower is a lovesome thing” on Splasc(h) Records featuring maurizio giammarco and with achille succi, mauro manzoni, luca bulgarelli, mauro campobasso, mirco mariani,in which she gives her own modern, not too traditional intrpretation of some of her favourite standards.
after recording ”a flower…” cecilia started a new experience which involved writing original songs in english, a kind of journey from jazz to pop to electronic music.
cecilia has a jazz background but over time she has developed a personal style as a singer and songwriter, motivated by great curiosity towards different styles while remaining in the field of jazz.
the concrete result of this interior and compositive process is “nevermore". recording finished in winter 2002 and it was released in December 2004 on giovanni and flavio bonandrini’s Soul Note, featuring alfredo impullitti, mauro campobasso, fabrizio bosso, mauro manzoni, luca bulgarelli, achille succi, alessandro svampa, matteo scaioli and others.
at the same time cecilia has dedicated herself to the composition and production of songs in italian, a natural evolution of the themes and poetry expressed in “nevermore”; a new sogwriting experience in which music and text come together
to form a single image.
