Catskills Records was formed 1996 by a London / Brighton collective to release underground talent from their home turf. The label represents the best that both scenes has to offer, and has since spread it's wings to other parts of the UK with Bushy, Zero Theory, Sonorous Star, Nylon Rhythm Machine, Black Grass, Vibra and now to Europe and the rest of the world with the signings of Pepe Deluxe and Husky Rescue from Finland and Capsule from Germany.

Unlike other record labels there is no formula to our shit. There is no particular formula, no particular style and no particular genre of music that represents Catskills. We've said it before and we'll say it again loudly for the people in the cheap seats; it's all about the Head Nod Factor (tm), if it's got it then we'll spin it 'til it breaks our necks.

Catskills is run by people involved at every stage of the game, DJ's, producers, designers, the point is to understand all angles. However, the emphasis is always on experimentation, artistic freedom and artist diversity. We’re not looking to sign another Pepe Deluxe or another Bushy; anyone we sign has to be something different and new.

2001 was a landmark year for the Cat, with Pepe Deluxe sound-tracking Levi's biggest and most successful advertising campaign to date (Twisted Jeans) and consequently landing Catskills with their first UK Top 20 hit with ‘Before You Leave’. 2002 saw the label step up a gear with successful singles (including ‘Never’ and ‘Don’t Mind If I Do’) and album ‘Hiya!’ from Bushy as well as the amazing debut album from Hardkandy ‘How Do You Do Nothing’ which has been blowing up the spot on vinyl as well as on the live circuit around Europe with a full-on 9-piece band!

2003 saw the release of the groundbreaking new album from Pepe Deluxe ‘Beatitude’ proceeded by the single ‘Girl’ (check the ill video as well as the award-winning ‘Salami Fever,’ ‘Ask For A Kiss’ and ‘Lying Peacefully’ video on www.pepedeluxe.com). As well as the self-titled debut album from white-hot new signings Black Grass featuring Blak Twang and the cream of UK Hip Hop, jazz and breaks.

Since then Black Grass have released the follow-up album ‘A Hundred Days in One’ as well as Hardkandy’s second album ‘Last To Leave’ which featured a collaboration with Soul Legend Terry Callier.

2007 sees the label going into their 11th year and diversifying their sound with the signing of punk band The Ripps, check their album “Long Live The Ripps” out now. 2007 saw the highly-anticipated return of Husky Rescue with their new album “Ghost Is Not Real” followed by a string of successful live dates and festival appearances. That’s not all! Look for the long-awaited return of Pepe Delux with their awe-inspiring new album “Spare Time Machine” on June 18th (check the insane videos for ‘Pussy Cat Rock’ and ‘Mischief Of Cloud 6’ at http://www.youtube.com/my_playlists?p=BCC06371EE5FD86A) as well as the return of Bushy and Black Grass’ third album.
