In the spring of 146 BC the North African city of Carthage finally fell to the Romans. The Carthaginian Solution was the complete eradication of a society - the destruction of everything; culture, language and history. It was said the Romans were so intent on eliminating all traces of this civilisation that they salted the land so nothing could grow there again. The downfall of Carthage has been used as a metaphor in describing the crushing nature of western foreign policy.

Carthaginian are a four piece indie/post-hardcore band who met in 2006 and found common ground in obscure trivia, extinction events, Red Mars and culinary prowess. More importantly they bonded over their shared respect for independent music, and shared lack of respect for political, religious and environmental near-sightedness.
In 2007 Carthaginian released a four track EP named Nemesis, which was well received. Some years went by, the members finished their degrees and/or started new ones while intermittently writing music, partying and watching eclipses, until in 2009 they began production of their debut album "Crosses".

“Crosses” was written and recorded at Soundtrax, a local commercial studio. The self-produced album was engineered and mixed by Jonathan Dakers, then mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music in New York. Credits to West West Side’s name include Converge, Trans-Am, Mastodon as well as Locust, LCD Soundsystem, and Run DMC.

The band's influences include, At The Drive In, Bear Vs Shark, And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, Refused, Converge, and The Mint Chicks. But “Crosses” is a unique effort, the achievement of Carthaginian's goal to produce music that is cathartic and personal.

Carthaginian will be touring and releasing their first full‐length album independently. Their debut album “Crosses” will be released on And What Records in New Zealand this October 2010.
