Carlitos Del Puerto is already one of the most recognized acoustic bass players to emerge in the last decade. Even at the young age of 30, it’s no surprise that Carlitos Is able to play with such virtuosity and maturity, as he is the son of world famous Cuban bass player, Carlos Del Puerto, one of the founders and original member of The group Irakere, as well as distinguished professor and author of the book, The True Cuban Bass, used in several prestigious conservatories such Berklee College of Music.



Since his arrival in the United States from Cuba just a few years ago, Carlitos has been in great demand, performing and recording with a broad range of acclaimed International stars such as Stevie Wonder, Celia Cruz, Don Grusin, Ricky Martin, Gloria Gainor, Paquito De Rivera, Patti Labelle, John Secada, Sheila E, Alejandra Guzman, Diego Torres and Joan Sebastian. In a span of only ten years, Carlitos has played in a great deal of famous recordings, including one of the best selling Cuban albums of all times Cubanismo. He’s proud to have recorded and perform with the best there is: pianist Chucho Valdez, Roy Hargrove, David Sanchez, Danilo Perez Gonzalo Ruvalcava, Steve Coleman, Frank Emilio, Oscar Castro Neves, Jose Maria Vitier, Jane Bunnett, just to name a few. Bass Player magazine has consulted and quoted Carlitos numerous times in their features on Cuban bass technique. In 1996 He was personally invited for the second consecutive year to perform with his impressive quartet at the International Montreal Jazz Festival.



At the tender age of 16 while still immersed in his musical studies the late Cuban pianist and composer Emiliano Salvador urged Carlitos to join his group to perform and record what would be Emiliano’s last works. In 1991, Carlitos won the Grand Prize and and first Honorable Mention for excellence in interpretation of Cuban Music at the Amadeo Roldan National Music Competition. At the age of 17,Carlitos was bestowed the title of Best New Jazz Artist at the international Jazz Festival in Havana, an enormous recognition of the level of Carlito’s musical talent.



Carlitos began his musical studies at the highly regarded Alejandro Garcia Caturla Conservatory where he earned his degree in Cello Performance. Later, he attended the world famous National School of Music & Arts in Cuba where he acquired the Prominent title of Professor of Contrabass and Ensemble Performance. Most recently Carlitos del Puerto has added many recordings and live projects to his Credit and has expanded into the areas of film music recording, television shows, Music videos, such as Michael Jackson’s “You Rock My World” , and international commercials, most recently for Bose Systems with Herbie Hancock. Also, he completed the soundtrack for the HBO movie “Havana Nocturne” with Arturo

Sandoval, Performing with trumpet legend Doug Severinsen as special guests of Colorado, Arizona, Milwaukee, Ottawa Symphony Orchestras and was the recipient of a Grammy nomination for his performance on the Best Latin Tropical Album,

Carabana Cubana.
