I´m gonna tell your mama what I really feel.about Captain Murphy.

The saga of Captain Murphy goes back well over a decade. Rhythm guitarist Victor Hvidfeldt and bassist Johnny Borgström began jamming in high school when they were both 14. They met lead guitarist/singer Sonny Boy Gustafsson and from the start it was clear that Sonny was born to play lead and to sing. All that was left was to find a drummer who could play the way they wanted. Early demos feature both Vic and Sonny playing the drums but that just wouldn´t work live, would it? After trying out numerous drummers, some lasting a few rehearsals, some not lasting one, they found Tomas "Fruttas" Eriksson. After cementing the lineup with Fruttas the band began gigging around Stockholm building up a fanbase. Following an apearance in late 2002 at Rabbit Fighter, a monthly showcase here in Stockholm, they met their manager Malin Gustafson, no relation to Sonny. This is were things began to take off. A month after meeting Malin they were in Acetone Studios where they laid down 3 tracks which were used to shop to various record labels. All of a sudden four record companies were interested in the group. They eventually signed with BAM, a division of BonnierAmigo. In april of 2003 the band entered Decibel Studios where they laid down four songs which became the self-titled Captain Murphy Ep. You vinyl junkies out there better grab up one of the few remaining copies ´cos in a few months when the whole world knows about Captain Murphy you´re going to be paying out the ass for one copy of it on ebay. I kid you not. In july the band returned to Decibel where they recorded their first single "I´m A What".

The winters in scandinavia are long and dark. They are also a good time to plan a recording of a debut album. Not 100% satisfied with the results from Decibel the band began talking having someone else come in and produce them. Nicke Andersson of The Hellacopters were mentioned and demos were sent to him. He was suitably impressed but did not have the time to dedicate to the project. He suggested Chips K, who after meeting the band and hearing the material agreed to help them make what they wanted. Following a month of intense rehearsals the band and Chips K entered Atlantis Studios in Stockholm and laid down 15 songs in 10 days during January of 2004. 12 of which ended up being released on their self-titled long player. This was followed up with more gigs throughout Scandinavia, and a month long European tour with Norway´s Gluecifer. But that´s all old history now. In december of 2005 the band started the recording of their second album in Music A Matic Studios in Gothenburg. Once again with Chips K as a producer. Why mess with a perfect recipe? The new album is scheduled for a release later this spring. Beautiful people of the world. Would you please give a warm welcome to Sweden´s finest.Captain Murphy! /Dave Champion 2005
