CADILLAC VS CORNBREAD ALL THE FUN (AT PALMER’S BAR)

Cadillac Kolstad and Cornbread Harris have released their first collaborative album titled All The Fun (At Palmer's Bar). They are billing themselves Cadillac vs Cornbread, but at eighty-two, local music veteran James Samuel "Cornbread" Harris Sr. isn't so much an adversary to roots revivalist Cadillac Kolstad as he is a mentor. The two pianists have been performing weekly in a number of local music venues for several years. Including their infamous Sunday gig at the venerated West Bank bar, Palmer's, where all the music for this much anticipated album has been recorded over the past two years.

Collectively you couldn't ask for a more intriguing mid century duo. Cornbread is a WWII vet who joined Augie Garcia in 1955 to record Minneapolis' earliest rock'n'roll record "Hi Ho Silver." Cornbread’s sixty plus years in music provide him with roots in country, blues and jazz, giving him the repertoire and background that extends all the way back to the very beginnings of popular American music. Cadillac has been spending years reviving these traditions, fueled by the culture of his home in the West Bank music scene. The resurgence he has fostered with his band now carries over to a tight, piano-based partnership with Cornbread.

Their self-produced album was recorded and produced by the band over the past year. Pressed on 12” vinyl and CD, it features hand-made cover art, making this first collaborative album for the dueling-piano act a sure collector’s item. Cadillac and Cornbread will be celebrating their release with special Saturday and Sunday shows the weekend of their three year anniversary of music Palmer’s Bar. The shows on Saturday January 16th and on Sunday the 17th 2010 will lead up to the Martin Luther King holiday on Monday
