To Whom It May Concern:An Open Letter to the Sound Commodity Industry

Your revolution is a slogan. It is merely a brand and logo easily marketed to tract house youth bent on a romanticized idea of rebellion. A rebellion of convenience. Whatever conveniently interests the consumer during the current fiscal quarter. Your revolution is the canned background Muzak for the Youtube generation of Starbucks-swilling-strip-mall-frequenting-zombie-Americans, bedecked in ‘lifestyle’ clothing, purchased with Mom and Dads half-heartedly indebted credit.

Your band Du Jour does not have a rallying cry; they have never intended to follow anyone over the breach into the melee. They are used as a commodity to move product and as a non-lethal weapon against authority—an acceptable representation of dissidence. You use them to disseminate marketing messages. After all, aggressive guitars and loudness equate to protest right? No, those sentiments equate to capital. Your pockets are bulging with decades of frustration, anxiety, righteous indignation and apathy of youth culture.

The consumer is a bottom line in a financial portfolio. A number on a Soundscan report. Another fresh young face amid millions of identical uniform wearing McRevolutionaries. You have been sold a product and the salespeople look the part so you assimilate a look; tattoos, curled upper lip, ironic time period t-shirt, bad hair-cut. The most valuable aspect of you is your mind and your ability to affect change.

The picture on your ID does not define you and your social security number does not dictate the decisions you make in life. You come to listen to US play, or turn whatever format you’ve found us in up LOUD but do you really listen? Activate yourself. Read the front page of a newspaper – let the information fill your head, useless data and celebrity gossip pornography.

We Detail the Release and document with sound.
