Butterfly Explosion released the debut album 'LOST TRAILS' in 2010 on Revive Records. Album opener 'Closer' had already received extensive airplay from Ireland's leading alternative music shows such as Paul McLoone(TodayFM) and Dan Hegarty(2FM) who described it as "My Bloody Valentine meets M83 meets Sigur Ros in Heaven".
Within a couple of weeks of the album release, more tracks such as 'Chemistry', 'Insulate Dreams', 'Sophia' and 'Tracing Stars' began to stir interest in the USA and with the album entering an increasing number of stations' Top 30 playlists, 'Lost Trails' broke into the CMJ 200 college radio charts after just 2 weeks, rising to #121 by the end of March.
Following on from a UK tour in February with God Is An Astronaut, the band headed over to the States to perform at SXSW 2010, playing Philadelphia, New York and Chicago en route to the festival. Their official showcase attracted a full venue at Habana Calle with interest coming from two of New York's biggest webzines. The Brooklyn Vegan said "this is what i call "epic shoegaze"", while The Village Voice wrote a full review summarising "With Silversun Pickups whetting the alternative crowd's appetite, these guys might actually find a niche in America". When Drowned In Sound recently had a series of articles dedicated to the diverse influence today of the early 90s shoegaze scene Butterfly Explosion were amongst the new artists highlighted as ones to watch.
So far in 2010 Butterfly Explosion have toured UK, USA, Ireland, Netherlands, Germany, Poland and Austria, playing in 40 cities. Other highlights have included festival appearances at SXSW Austin, Liverpool Soundcity, Electric Picnic Festival and Arthur's Day Festival.
