The "new" tune."SUFFER" (recorded LIVE at RPM'S by a FAN)

For BURNING EARTH, 2005 was the year the planets finally aligned for what would become one of Pittsburgh’s fastest rising rock bands. That year saw the band in its infancy bring together 5 very different musicians, with 5 very different musical influences to make ONE loud aggressive force.

Each member of BURNINGEARTH has played with some degrees of success in local bands previously, including “Lucid 1,” “Psychedelic Kitchen,” “Copper Drama” and “Chastity.” Even with moderate success and potential in their perspective bands something seemed to be missing. WHAT was the missing ingredient? EACH OTHER! The current members got together for a short jam session that lasted some three years later.

Growing up in Uniontown (and surrounding towns) wasn’t easy for the guys to give it a go in the world of rock-n-roll (that hadn’t exactly existed in the confines of FAYETE-NAM Pennsylvania). Like any small town, the elders always looked down on the rock community they wanted no part of it. “If ya wanna sing, you do it in CHURCH.” “If ya wanna play music, you better have a TRADE to make some real money” “Rock is dead, you need to be a COUNTRY band.” “You don’t have the TALENT!” “No you can’t be successful!” NO, YOU CAN’T THIS, NO, YOU CAN’T THAT! That was all well and good, but one slight problem…BURNING EARTH didn’t have “NO YOU CAN’T” in their vocabulary. Being the ROCK-N-ROLL guys they are, the boys threw the proverbial MIDDLE FINGER to the naysayers. They didn’t care what ANY generation wanted them to do; they had to stay true to what was in their OWN hearts. Through their various incarnations with other bands the guys almost heeded the advice and quit. Once they got together with each other, they KNEW that quitting WASN’T an OPTION. They were going do it and they were going to do it THEIR WAY! At no time like the present was the time ever more RIGHT!

As a band they’ve got five very different musicians, bringing five very different influences to make one special sound. There is something for everyone in the music of BURNING EARTH. Former editor of RIP Magazine, Lonn Friend described their sound as “I listened to Burning Earth. Retro but fresh with big fat riffs. A potent combination. Good things to come!” This coming from the man that helped break bands such as Guns N Roses, Alice in Chains and a slew of others; THAT shouldn’t be taken lightly.

MEET THE BAND….

Paul “BUBSY” Neighbors, LEAD VOCALS. Bubsy brings the melodic voice to B.E.

WADE Friend, GUITARS AND BACKING VOCALS. Wade brings the “heavy metal” element to the band in the respect of the heavy riffs and aggressive sound.

ERIC MacGregor, GUITARS. Eric brings the “jam/groove” element to the band. Eric loses himself on stage when playing, letting the guitar take over his own self.

Don “STONER” Stoneking on bass. Stoner brings that jazzy, heavy bass element to the band. His 5 string pounding, monolithic stage presence is a B.E. fan fave.

PAULLY Bakos on drums. Paully brings the “old school” good time back beat to the band. His drumming reminiscent of the L.A. Sunset Strip scene with an updated style and rhythm.

BURNING EARTH has had the privilege of opening for acts such as Saliva, Buckcherry, Days of the New, The Dreaming, MercyFall, Crossfade, Quiet Riot, Jani Lane of WARRANT, The BulletBoys, Jackyl and a slew of others. Saliva frontman, Josie Scott commented about the band after their performance that he couldn’t believe they were only on the local circuit. His quote, “These boys are LOCAL!? Damn son, someone better keep an eye on you! You’re damn good, you should be proud.” Once again not taking the accolades too lightly or too serious the band kept plugging away playing more shows and writing more material.

The band got their music in the hands of singer/songwriter Dean Davidson. Upon hearing the rough demo of “If I Ask” and “Slow Burn,” Dean contacted their manager to discuss getting them in the studio to record the tunes “the RIGHT WAY, to make a REAL record.” Dean also informed them that they’d be working with the legendary Phil Nicolo (multi Grammy winner and multi-platinum album recipient) who would be helping produce, but also mixing and mastering the CD.

The band set off to Conshohocken, PA to record in legendary studio, Studio 4 (Boys II Men, Dishwalla, Billy Joel, and more). The band needed to raise money to pay for the studio time and with a lot of luck and a LOT of help from their friends and fans, off they went. With thirty bucks in their pockets, but a lot heart and soul, the band recorded the disc “ONE DAY” in ONE DAY.

The CD (now available at http://www.burningearthonline.com) that you hear was done, not through the magic of ProTools, but though the magic of BURNING EARTH. You don’t get a CD that was chopped and punched together in the studio. The disc was recorded in the words of their producer Dean Davidson, “…old school. If it was good enough for the Beatles to record LIVE as a GROUP in the studio; it is certainly good enough for you boys.” The band went into the studio fully prepared, Dean was at the helm fully prepared, and Phil was on board fully prepared, but NO ONE was prepared for the magic that happened that “one day.” NO track on the disc was recorded in full more than TWO times. Each song was recorded LIVE with only 2 takes. At the end of the session, Phil told the band, “You see all those Platinum Records on the wall? I can count on ONE HAND how many bands I’ve worked with could do what you boys just did: at the QUALITY you just did them in, on ONE HAND! AMAZING!”

Now you can judge for yourself by getting the NEW cd, “ONE DAY” online at http://www.burningearthonline.com . The band has been exploding on MySpace, especially from the fans of NICKELBACK and METALLICA! Two very different bands in their own right, but there is something for everyone to enjoy in the music of BURNING EARTH.
