Br'er

Since its initial inception, Br'er has been an ever evolving project, changing shape and sound as both a live band and as a recording project. Br'er originally began as the solo recording project of Philadelphia native Benjamin Schurr as a means of completing several unfinished songs he began for another project. A full-length album soon emerged from these meager beginnings after several manic recording sessions with borrowed equipment, broken keyboards, and a host of recording partners culled from across the Philadelphia area. Soon after came the desire to interpret the music in a live setting.
The original live band that formed in June of 2007 was made up of Schurr on harmonium, toy piano, and/or guitar; Christian Mirande on a semi-broken Paia modular synthesizer; and Darian Scatton on pedal harp. The small, eclectic ensemble would be a good indication of the type of live band Br'er would soon evolve into over the next four years. After countless lineup changes ranging from two to seven piece bands, two full lengths and a handful of EPs, Br'er is still in a state of flux that continues to help inform the creative direction of the band.
