You might recognize Brittany McDonald from her signature song, Another Wanna Be, that was featured on over 8 million Sony Walkman's around the world. You may have heard her music on hit National Television shows like Modern Family & Guiding Light, or maybe you just simply stumbled upon Brittany's highly devoted and ever-increasing online fan base. However you've been introduced to her music, there is no doubt that Brittany has caused quite the infectious stir, amongst both fans and critics alike.
Referred to as "Unsigned Gold" by esteemed pop music blog PopJustice, with nods from major industry A&R websites and even the likes of Perez Hilton, Brittany McDonald is no stranger to the music scene. With songs full of sass and wit, Brittany's music reflects her desire to be well, Brittany. She was singing before she could talk and can't recall a single day not knowing that music would be her future. Brittany says, "When you're born to do something, there are no doubts, you just know."
Growing up in Southern California, Brittany was raised with a Catholic school girl education, inside the corporate bubble and concrete roots of Orange County. But instead of attaching herself to the white picket fence crew, Brittany opted to adopt the attitude of local artists like No Doubt's Gwen Stefani. "I was absolutely fascinated by Gwen's raw ability to playfully challenge societal views of women. I was 11 years old listening to Just A Girl and remember thinking, 'She's not just singing, she's changing the way people think. That's what I'm gonna do.' "
After making her way to USC, where she was a member of the famed SoCal VoCals a cappella group, Brittany McDonald no sooner graduated with a degree in Psychology, packed her bags and moved to Nashville, TN. Not knowing a soul and determined to follow her dreams, Brittany says, "I started writing like a crazy person, painted my walls different colors and made them into these giant collages, which eventually gave way to some of my first songs." Those first songs garnered a great deal of attention, ultimately resulting in industry big shots claiming that Brittany's songs were too opinionated and too edgy for a female in country music.
"Why play by the rules, when you can change the game?" Brittany says. "I've never allowed rejection to change who I am, just allowed it to make me stronger." And that is exactly what she did. Moving back to Southern California, Brittany McDonald channeled all of her energy into her newest single, Notice Me, which was sparked and inspired not only by the music industry, but by the challenges of being a female in today's world. "If the music doesn't speak, if what I write doesn't speak to me, it won't speak to anyone. I feel like it is my responsibility to create music that has character and spirit; music that contributes and relates to people's everyday lives."
Brittany McDonald's youthful elegance and commanding presence has made significant impressions on dynamic women like Arianna Huffington, who recently saw the music video for Notice Me and personally gave Brittany her own blog on the Huffington Post. Poised as the new artist to notice in 2013, there is absolutely no doubt that Brittany McDonald is ever-closer to seeing her dreams come true, and sharing them with the rest of the world.
