Brought together by love of the three minute pop song, bridges and powerlines formed in the summer of 2005. The band, composed of keyboardist and vocalist Andrew Wood, bassist Keith Sigel, guitarist Jon Crockett, and drummer Pete Mucek, arrived via diverse geographic and musical backgrounds to create a quirky yet melodic mix of guitars, synths, vocal harmonies, and carefully constructed exploratory pop songs. Since their inception, the four have written songs inferring the pop sensibility of Spoon, the rousing melodrama of Wolf Parade, and sharp, catchy guitar lines akin to Thunderbirds are Now!
Excited crowds have packed venues throughout the northeast to see their energetic shows. Demos recorded in fall and winter of 2005-2006 were lauded by several influential indie publications and blogs, describing their endeavor as "an exhilarating racket" (sixeyes) that "might be the next band everyone is talking about." (New York Press)
In September of 2006 the band released their debut EP which received ecstatic reception from the online and print press, being described as "a taught five-song testament to why they should be added to your list of bands to watch." (IGN.com) The success of the EP attracted rising-star indie producer Chris Zane who had helmed breakout records by Les Savy Fav, The White Rabbits, and Asobi Seksu.
The band spent much of 2007 recording their debut with Zane, meticulously crafting a diverse collection of stories about male protagonists struggling with maturity in the face of boyhood impulses.
The band released their debut full-length ghost types on their own imprint CityBird Records on April 22, 2008. It met with immediate critical praise and was described as a "quirky and epic," (Deli Magazine) "incontrovertibly fun" (Yahoo Music) record, composed by a collection of "engineering nerds" (Pitchfork). The record was also a college radio hit, spending 2 months in the CMJ College Radio Top 200.
The band ended 2008 with an east coast tour, a series of CMJ Music Marathon and SXSW 2009 showcases and a successful residency at NYC's Pianos. They are currently working on the follow-up to ghost types.
