It was 10/06/1994 when Tomas Boo and Christian Weisbrot and Rimas Sapauskas have held the first party, or night, or discotheque as weve been used to call it, called Boogaloo in Vilnius. Actually, then it was one of the first parties as we image them today. As well as a party brand. So, at the beginning, two talents mentioned above, have decided to organize a party with the music they like. For the people they like. For friends, who like the same music. Acid jazz/ Funk/ Soul/ Rap. Not only the idea of such a party (it was a novelty!) attracted people, but the way it was organized too. The rumours where spread telling where the party would happen, but no one knew where, and information where given only few hours before it. It took place every time else where, in the city and out of it, and the attractiveness of it grew fast. Then the first flyers in history Lithuanian show business appeared. Black and white, then colored, then two-sided. When Christian left Lithuania, the organization crew has been changing, till 2Fresh joined it in and who he found there was Tomas Boo, founder of Boogaloo, who still takes a major part in it. DJ 2Fresh is one of the few masters of scratch in Lithuania. He practices his skills on vinyls of hiphop, funk, breaks and oldschool. 2Fresh was in the Top 3 of Lithuanian DJs for several times, and it is the best proof of his talent. Gradually, Boogaloo became a well known brand, and unfolded into large extremely popular parties, as well started to collaborate with various organizations, like British Council, Lithuanian Contemporary Arts Centre, Goethe Institute and others organizing and performing at cultural events, shows and exhibitions etc. Through Vilnius contemporary Boogaloo crew, Tomas Boo and 2Fresh, has spread with lots of serial parties at different stages, that is: weekend performances with live musicians Boogalive at Cozy, crazy and energetic Shake your tits to Boogaloo beats at Stereo45, Sheezophonic at Gravity, hilarious Boogaloo Exclusive at Cozy, sponsored Carlsberg Boogaloo at Gravity and Sunday evenings Boogaloo lounge at Briusly. At the parties organized by Boogaloo such names participated and performed side-by-side: Edie Piller, Sir Tristan Longhworth, Smoove (Acid Jazz rec.), Keb Darge (K. D. rec.), Maxwell Implosion (Bungalow rec., Germany), Mansfield (Readymade rec., JP), Phil Lofi (Lo Fidelity all stars), Catskill crew (Catskills rec.), Tru Thoughts rec. Crew, Breakin Bread crew, Montefiori coctail (irma rec.), Mo Horizons (Germany), DJ Format (uk), MACCA aka BEATHOVEN (puma strut recUK), Andy Smith (portishead. UK), Krafty KUTS & A SKILLZ (Fingerlickin rec.), KIDDA (skint), Diesler, Ollie Teeba (Herbalizers dj), Dj FOOD (ninja tune, uk) and many many others. Talking about the foreign appearances, it was Nu Jazz Festival at St. Petersburg, where theyve played together with Nathan Hains, Patric Forge etc; constantly visited club Paprotka in Warsaw, PL, as well as Piekarnia in Warsaw, Poznan, PL, Universal in Kaliningrad, RU, Breaking Bread Party at Rhytm Factory and Sunday Boogaloo at 93 Feet East in London, UK. What describes the atmosphere at Boogaloo parties its the total joy, which comes from various acts, including dance, sing, show at the decks and other. Live performers and artists often join the party actively participating. And all this mixes into already crazy mix of samples, scratches, covers, bootlegs and mash-ups which play Boogaloo. Besides the fact, that Boogaloo parties are joined by other artists, Boogaloo themselves participate in other music projects, like A.I.R. Artists in residence, project of free thinking artists or live playing band Brass Bastardz. They also started a new project called Beauties for all seasons, where three female DJs take part. The project is dedicated to promote female DJing and to connect, combine DJ music, dance and song together. Other projects, like live performances, releases and remixes still to come.
