Bob Charters is a full time musician tearing up the independent music scene one venue at a time. Coming from a musical family, his mother enrolled him in Royal Conservatory piano training from an early age. Bob received his father’s classical guitar at the age of 18, where he taught himself to play by ear while attending the University of Waterloo. It was there that he started playing live at open mic/jam nights, learning the nuances of stage performance and live sound production.

Returning to Barrie, he became a Youth Worker, focusing on adolescent teens with special needs, and teaching educational and practical life skills in Barrie and Orillia secondary schools. Bob continued to burn the candle at both ends, working a full time day job, then performing at local venues at night. Practicality dictated his choice; music was his calling, and he hasn’t looked back since. Bob performed over 150 shows last year, and is always booking more. He released his first album, “Words I’ve Known” in 2007, and his music is featured online at CBC Radio 3 and iTunes. He has worked with acts such as Aaron Lines and Pat Robitaille at clubs and festival stages across Ontario. In 2007 he was selected to showcase at the Canadian Organization of Campus Activities (COCA) regional conference. He has spent more time this year performing at charity fundraisers for the Royal Victoria Hospital Cancer Care Centre, the Canadian Cancer Society, and Ontario Track 3. Bob was nominated for a Barrie Arts Award as an Emerging Artist in 2008, and asked to perform at the awards at the Gryphon Theatre in 2009. He continues to write and record music, book tours and meet great people along the way.
