Blue Jackets Required

A Funk / R and B / Soul / Rock and Roll ensemble from Toronto's prestigious Humber College. Under the direction of Dave Stillwell, this band has been together for over 25 years. The members may change each year but the soul will stay forever.

The normal compliment for the band is 2-5 vocalists, 2-3 trumpets,

1 trombone,1 alto sax, 1 tenor sax, and 1 baritone sax. There is usually 1 keyboard, 1 guitar, 1 bass and drums. The students in the band span all four years of the degree/diploma program. A great deal of the music is written by Uncle Dave's Arranging students at Humber College. They bring in tunes in every commercial "bag". This insures that the students have a grounding in the various commercial styles.

Uncle Dave contributes to the mix by bring in his own arrangments for the band as well. There are over 400 "working musicians" that have performed with the band over the past 25 years. Over the years the group has been known as the "Showband" "Uncle Dave's Rock and Roll Roadshow" and "Blue Jackets Required" The band is a public relations vehicle for the college performing at Universities, Colleges, High Schools, Public and Separate Schools. We are also active doing Festivals, Concerts, Dances and Clinics.

Each year we take the money from all the events and put it towards a week long recording session at a local studio in the Toronto area. This gives the band a chance to lay down 6-10 tracks of arrangements done for them by the arrangers. Check out the tracks on the site for samples of our work.
