.from driving, infectiously danceable retro pop to slow, soulful ballads with an authenticity that harks back to 1960s bands like the Rascals, bolstered by not a little bit of Motown groove and early-period Beatles harmonies. It's evident in the careful intricacies of the songs, as well as the many oddball — but perfectly executed — stops and starts, that Splee's sound has been crafted and tuned with great care.

Post punk guitars meet bearded 70’s road trip rock, relentless shambolic drums and lots of organs and pianos pushing it all forward.jeff milo | deep cutz

Nobody knows how to describe these guys’ sound.tom matich | real detroit weekly
.this Detroit quintet brews a refreshing and varied sound, leaning toward more raucous indie-rock but through a lens that’s both new and classical and structures both traditional and avant-garde (abrupt time signatures take a steady head-bop into a freewheeling romp). Guitars jangle, declarative pianos swoon, percussion goes from strict and walking to banging every pot in the cupboard. Very promising, sort of '60s baroque-pop meets American traditional rock . maybe some folk, too? Or just rewardingly unclassifiable.jeff milo | real detroit weekly
The songs are extremely well-crafted and performed, the lyrics are great, the songs are soulfully sung and the harmonies are not just striking to the ears–they’re striking to the body. They were one of my favorite Detroit bands before this performance and after their performance last night they’re one of my favorite U.S. bands. After next year, they’ll probably be one of my favorite world music bands.scotter | post-rockist.com
