In Las Vegas, for every glimmer off every piece of glitter … there are a thousand grains of dirt. Black Camaro is well aware of its surroundings. “We’re in a desert, man… and it’s about to get hot.” On the cusp of another summer, Black Camaro is back at work with several projects, including a DVD, an EP and a season full of live shows. The band credits its success to it’s savvy listeners. “A lot of folks out there want something fresh, something brand new and spectaculous, something that sounds like nothing they’ve ever heard.” says BC member Brian Garth. It’s fanbase seems to grow with every show but it wasn’t always this easy for Black Camaro.
In 2003, T. Miller and B. Garth began a series of bedroom recordings that led to the formation of the entity that is Black Camaro. These recordings eventually became their first full length album, White People Fucked Up the Blues. The songs were dirty, raw and unpolished and they spoke of the hotness of their environment and the coldness of humanity. On a small scale, the record was an instant success… well… as successful as a spray-painted CDR could be. Over the next 6 months, however, the group’s music began to find its way into hearts of music listeners far and near. The duo was all but forced to create an act to showcase their songs in a live setting. Within 4 months, they were on the road, playing gigs from El Paso to Seattle. The band was now legitimate… and busy. Over the next few years, Black Camaro did the soundtrack for an independent movie, released a second album and EP and wrote and produced it’s own film, Miniature Panthers, all while playing dozens of shows in and out of town.
“Our live shows are special because, I don’t know, that is our one moment to destroy you… and during the next song we will put you back together and nurture you, then you’re ours forever.” declares Thomas Miller. Black Camaro is currently five members: B. Garth (vocals, guitar), T. Miller (vocals, keyboard, guitar), R. Miller(vocals, bass), J. Berg (percussion, guitars) and S. Trujillo (vocals, drums). With such an eclectic catalogue to choose from, the Black Camaro live show never gets old. Their sound ranges from early black gospel to 60’s psychedelic… from lo-fi folk to heavy duty rock and roll, all delivered to you in the unique Black Camaro style.
2009 serves as a milestone for the band as they embark into uncharted territories. “We just have so much unreleased material and now its starting to pile up. Maybe we’ll just dig a hole in the desert and bury them.” Whether Brian Garth is kidding or not, the band promises to deliver fresh goods before the year is out. After spending a week in an Oregon studio back in March, Black Camaro swears that the new songs are the best they’ve ever recorded…. but those recordings merely represent just one of the many projects Black Camaro has slated for the year. Bassist Rick Miller states “It's time to deliver. its time to get to dirty and sweaty. ” Believe that, my friends, because its gonna be a long, long, long summer. --- Gregory Fontaine
