Moorish is more than an ornate and beautiful description of design, style of constructing, growing, healing, creating/evolving. Moorish is a mixed culture, it’s an all-encompassing passion and ideology that does not judge while blending religion and music. Byron John Moore references some of his views about human co-existence and evolution from this culture's ancient legacy. Moor'ish is humble, it is graceful and recognizes music universally and it's the name of the band. Byron is widely known and acclaimed for his talents on the bass, arranging, vocal scatting, recording and singing different styles of music from House and Dance to Jazz and a variety of other styles but if it wasn’t for pots and pans he may have never found music. At his grandfather’s church in New Jersey, Byron sat along side the choir singing and playing whatever percussive instrument he could get his hands on. His ear for rhythm and knack for song writing evolved from church to church with the choirs, constantly being introduced to new and unique sounds. Byron taught himself to play drums and began writing jazz and blues inspired gospel for the church, as well as drum parts for his high school’s marching band in Jersey City. This is where he met the bass. "It had black plastic strings and it was tuned all backwards. At first I didn’t understand the point of the bass. I thought all you needed was a left hand on the piano. That was confirmed to me at a young age by my mom's wonderful piano and organ playing”. Byron picked it up and not fully satisfied, he put it down. The second time he picked up the bass guitar, he decided to teach himself how to play. He discovered a different kind of healing. "It pulls rhythm and dance; it makes your body move." His fingers pluck and pattern the bass with a grace and style that individualizes his soul. After being spotted in church by a rep for Sony Music, Byron auditioned with his new love for the bass, for the virtuous Liz McComb, landing him a spot on tour with her through Europe and Africa, billed with the likes of Herbie Hancock and other Greats. Byron continues to travel between the States, Europe and parts of Africa. He has had the opportunity to play and perform with many blues and jazz aficionados; some of which are Jimmy Smith, Robert Glasper, Luther Allison, Johnny Mars, U.P. Wilson and Mark Whitfield. Byron can be spotted playing in New York City. He sometimes functions as one of the musical directors for a band in the West Village called the Café Wha House Band. Byron resides in the City and is currently working on his and other projects. Moor'ish features Byron and friends. The lyrics and instrumentation are the compositions of Byron and sometimes others. His vocal skill and playing is classic and raw, and his scatting abilities are tremendous. It’s not easy to classify his albums genre specific, because it’s a mutt of Byron’s experience through music and our world, containing elements of rock, jazz, blues and world-music. Accompanying him is drummer/percussionist Emilio Estephano Valdes and Axel Tosca Laugart on keys, both from Cuba. They are the two constants of the collection. At any given time, any given musician might stop by the studio to lay down a track.
