ONE NATION (Under CCTV)

SINGLE OUT ON iTUNES 21st DEC

Bishi is back with the 1st single - One Nation (Under CCTV) from the forthcoming album of the same name.

Inspired by a Banksy piece in central London - now painted over - this record reflects the ambivalent attitude many have in the UK toward the overwhelming presence of CCTV.

On one hand we resent the intrusion of continuous surveillance and on the other we welcome it as possible protection against the growing phenomena of ‘recreational violence’ and crime in general.

Another element to this relationship is the enjoyment of being watched - performance to and for the cameras. Whether it’s 'youths' acting up, direct protest or simple showing off the ‘street celebrity’ is here.

Reality programmes are the new public access TV. Police, council and private camera footage has fuelled our obsessive celebrity culture. Notoriety is currency - Asbos are a badge of honour - seeing your ‘crime’ or ‘action’ broadcast on TV is a great achievement.

Bishi plays with these ideas in a joyful yet sinister tone - the drum driven track suggesting celebration, aggravation and indignance.

If they wanna watch then let’s give ‘em something good

to see!

The Bside 'Salisbury Plain' is a setting of a traditional English song - the story of a young maid whose fella becomes a highway man - but alas is bought to justice - all without the help of any cameras!

The Tom, Dick and Oli Remix' - down loadable here FREE - is just one of 3 remixes on the single - others by The Glamorous Jodie Harsh and 'Earth Pig' (Will Ask) make this single a multidimensional experience.

The video comes FREE in the iTunes bundle -all for the bargain price of £1.99!

BIOGRAPHY

From the day she started her own label Gryphon Records in 2007 singer, multi-instrumentalist and DJ, Bishi has had a busy couple of years.

Whether playing Glastonbury with her rock band, underground clubs with a Grime collective or concert halls with The London Symphony Orchestra, her popularity has grown in line with the respect she receives for her recorded and live work.

.

Described as the doyenne of hybrid music her critically acclaimed 1st album ‘Nights at the Circus’ seamlessly mixed electronic beats, English folk and Asian instruments with personality and lyrical melody.

The new album ‘One Nation’ sees her return to re-evaluate the music that surrounded her when she first stepped out into the London night.

At just 18 she became well known as the DJ and ‘face’ of London’s notorious cult nightclub Kash Point. The club was an outrageous, creative and subversive playground for many of the artists, musicians and designers who influence the prevailing zeitgeist.

‘It has been encouraging to see those aesthetics become the stuff of the mainstream – however I feel that the current landscape has much of the style but little of the content.’

With this album Bishi touches upon social and political themes that have always motivated her. Topics such as identity, place, nationality and perceptions of freedom – lost and gained - are explored with customary zeal.

Her new sound references and revitalizes elements of IDM, Electro, Grime, Low Fi Punk and Digital Hardcore, giving them new relevance and purpose in a modern pop setting.
